We live amongst a society predicated on idolatry and all of its many facets. We are in the 4th Industrial Revolution where we follow/unfollow people as a means of communicating our own self-calculated, arbitrary social credit. Especially considering that ye's cosmopolitanism informs the make-up of his fanbase (generally speaking), fandom based on the story that you mentioned (and I fall under) can't be as directly associated with "fandom" as if this was a Nicki Minaj fan site or a kendrick Lamar fan site (the AOC of hip hop)

If anything, all of these other social media platforms are far more incentivizing of class and status worship. and thus has far more perverse effects on our reality at large
