by logging off and never returning to a fan forum based around a celebrity

I must say, this whole "based around a celebrity" thing is very stupid and outdated. Is X any less of a "fan forum based around a celebrity"? What makes regular social media more neutral of a digital commons space than ktt?

    Kanye should reboot Jonestown

  • CRACKASTEPPAVEGAN

Already is lol. Gen Z does not give a f*** about who's in tinsel town

They don’t care about legacy celebs but they are part of the ongoing proliferation of celebrity culture through platforms like YouTube, twitch ect.

the initial ktt was only that because 07-2013 kanye and all those phases / his reputation for being a tastemaker attracted certain types of demographics

its gotten away from ye as he’s … been ye lol but whatever you wanna call this community and how much influence it had once upon a time stemmed from people who were attracted to that initial 07-2013 “thing” that kanye and pharrell and lupe and co brought to the forefront that gave us sean cudi tyler rocky and perhaps even the blog era and now its kinda just people in their 20’s and 30’s that came up in that era thru 2016 lol

Twitter on the other hand is just a communication platform

For real I come here to talk music and movies but I’ve only ever listened to Vultures 1 once and still haven’t heard the 2nd. Not out of protest or anything I don’t hate him just not as a big of a fan as I used to be

That was speed. A few years ago he was on the come up. Today, almost everyone who uses social media regularly of all ages can name speed bruh lmao, this isn’t true. And it’s just something funny they enjoy same way we all used to watch nigahiga and all that early YouTube comedy s***

I have never heard anyone of any age bring up this guy before. I work with many people in their early 20s.

Also just being destructive for internet views versus well written scripts for a YouTube video

We live amongst a society predicated on idolatry and all of its many facets. We are in the 4th Industrial Revolution where we follow/unfollow people as a means of communicating our own self-calculated, arbitrary social credit. Especially considering that ye's cosmopolitanism informs the make-up of his fanbase (generally speaking), fandom based on the story that you mentioned (and I fall under) can't be as directly associated with "fandom" as if this was a Nicki Minaj fan site or a kendrick Lamar fan site (the AOC of hip hop)

If anything, all of these other social media platforms are far more incentivizing of class and status worship. and thus has far more perverse effects on our reality at large

Yeah i def agree it’s gotten far away from Kanye and moreso about most of us being a fan of rap from the mid 2010’s or before but at the same time its a reason why its probably less than 50 girls on here vs the rest of social media lol

I wish lowkey app went thru to what it was supposed to be so we could be closer to what you saying

My sister and her friends are in their 40s and asked me if I heard of Speed. Do you hear people in their early 20s talk about Chappell roan? Cause I hear she’s supposed to be big and popular. I’ve only ever heard one person (my girl) talk about Sabrina carpenter. See how using your environment to judge the entirety can prove to be not true?

I don’t even hear a lot of people bring up any celebrities in general nowadays if it isn’t huge shattering news so…idk lmao

But I'm not judging anyone. I just don't know who these people are that's why I was asking about if they are really on a celebrity scale compared to someone who's well known universally.

what's wrong with men coalescing in one place and women coalescing in another?

women were on Tumblr, ask.fm etc. during the time you mentioned and that informs the same mode of nostalgia for them that we share

Speed is pretty well known all around the world, he built his crowd based on the world and soccer. He just did some streams in multiple countries around the world getting mobbed by fans in each one

Kai I would say is at the same level but more based in USA. They both are celebrities you’d be familiar with if you frequented twitch/tiktok/youtube gaming

One thing I noticed about the generation you talking about is everyone is very locked into what they like and may miss the big moment that's been going on. Like I know a lot of people in their 20s who didn’t even know the Drake/Kendrick beef happened

Nothing, that was just an off the top of my head example of how while you are right in the sense of like the Vultures drops are way less relevant to this sites base than say WTT or MBDTF were as someone who remembers those on kLive lol,

The experience here is still very much in the lineage of how the site started whether its the lack of woman users on here or even the frequency of threads that wish for mainstream lyricism or Kendrick v Drake still being a thing on here even before Like That lmao, a lot of stuff on here is centric to the demographic that it started with whereas social media doesnt have to be like that, although its harder as you show the algorithm what you like

  • Been dead to me and it should be for everyone +15

I get it with the older generations but luckily social media made celebs lose their ''aura'' and larger than life status
