yeah so my story is kind of weird. happy to expand on it here in a post if y'all are interested.
but tldr - i went to college, got super interested in tech, dropped out due to depression, some family issues, etc.
attempted to start a company w/ a friend who was the technical founder. got pretty far, but friend was lying for months about progress and reality had done nothing. once i learned how f***ed we were, we had to close down shop
i then got a minimum wage support agent job in a small tech startup. was living w/ my parents since i couldn't afford an apartment in hcol area.
worked my ass off for 2 years and got a couple of promotions.
realized my boss was insecure about how quickly i was learning. he started preventing me from growth. i left and went back to college (required moving across country).
I wanted to move into data and after hundreds of applications, got an internship while at college
long story short, but ended up getting an offer for a full time data role back at my original company under a new manager.
dropped out again to pursue it. lucked out because i literally left in jan 2020 and covid happened next month.
i worked my way up for 2 years at company, still oonly making about 70k a year
worked my ass up and won employee of year. wanted to move to product management but my company was tripping
ended up applying elsewhere and due to my relevant experience, got a job as a pm at a big tech company making around 250k a year, which was a crazy bump from 70k
recently left that job to work at a job that i enjoy more that still pays comparable
