the wealth gap is crazy and also there's a reality disconnect between the wealthy and the working class
Like the conveniences wealth brings over living paycheck to paycheck could make a wealthy forget, or never even be aware at all of how difficult it would be to struggle monetarily
Especially when you're stuck with wage labor, paying rent, no upward mobility,
Obviously, an individual can do it and rise above the s***, but it's a crushing system nonetheless, and shouldn't be underestimated.
definitely a crushing system, really it requires you to take risk to get ahead which sucks
Not a whole lot
but im tryna change that
I wanna build my savings up while i can
u can start small/microinvesting, its easier than ever tbh,
just try not to get f***ed over by the banks like research the best s*** to put ur money in to where it doesn't lose value with inflation as it would just in a regular account
This man really didnt pick up on the sarcasm
Ain't no brother out here telling people he is white.

And for a lot of people, esp. those with families, taking a big risk is too dangerous if they have to be a provider for others
No surprise there. You talking about dudes buying nice clothes as to why they're supposedly poor. That's not even the reason you aren't poor. You have plenty of nice clothes.
Ain't no brother out here telling people he is white.
Everybody on this site knows im not white
Why do you think ive been saying nigga so much without scrutiny
Like im obviously not white and it was a dumb question to ask

If you're born into it and grow up under less than ideal circumstances, its definitely not a choice
But man, there are a lot of f***ing bums out there who are given the opportunities and would rather jus smoke up and not do s***
Now, folks are being a little too harsh on OP though, I get what he's talking about.
He's not talking about actually poor people. I had to deal with cold showers and no heating for months on end during Chicago winters, weeks without electricity, even a year or two without Internet or cable when I was a kid. No amount of financial planning can help you there.
But there are some folk that just never learned financial responsibility, even though they have the path to the middle class right in front of them. Honestly, just take a day-trip to /r/personalfinance and you'd be so much better off in every facet of your financial life.
Invest in a low-index cost fund, start contributing towards your retirement, keep on top of your revenues and expenses every day, be aggressive on your student loans, set up an emergency fund, set up an entertainment fund, buy used goods often, cook for yourself-- on and on and on.
But this is if you have the income and stability. At this point, yeah, I'd say for a good percentage of folks, staying broke really is a consequence of poor financial planning.

If you didn’t have your living condition at home do you think you’d survive out here?
If you didn’t have your living condition at home do you think you’d survive out here?
In the bay area? While in school? Probably not
I could maybe use my financial aid money to get a dorm or apartment
Worst comes to worse stop going to school and just work until im stable
Also putting money in savings and roth ira is something you do for the longterm lol. That has no effect on you being poor now.
lotta ppl I have known in my life going through school who just put all their attention on tryna get girls and d**** and party and always got in trouble with the cops and now they dropping outta community college and working some s*** job

Poor people don't invest for obvious reasons. They also don't have student loans. They also don't be on KTT and Reddit during the day, because that's a luxury that's afforded by non-poor people.
What are y'all calling poor?

I for real never learned financial responsibility til like... right now, I'm still trying to develop it in my 20s,
like even if i had a little money, I didn't know how to discipline and save it right and be frugal with s***, i would just spend it on dumb s***, food, games other young people s*** u just wanna have fun instead of looking to the future,
but now im like. I want the f*** out of the situation I'm in now and i can't do it broke
OP went ahead and said f*** it poor people cant have nice things
Im saying they stay with dry pockets cause they spend all their money on things
Not allocating or saving their money
You can buy luxuries but just have money to fall back on
In the bay area? While in school? Probably not
I could maybe use my financial aid money to get a dorm or apartment
Worst comes to worse stop going to school and just work until im stable
And that’s what happens to people that makes them fall into financial poorness and no savings. And it’s a difficult hole to dig out of.
So imagine your in this s***ty situation. Your telling me you wouldn’t want to have some sort of pleasure and buy yourself some shoes or some s*** like that?

true there's a few terms that're probably mixing together
poor/working class/middle class
there's a bit of muddling of all those I think,
I think i even did that itt
