While the man is responsible for bringing back two famed franchises, those being Transformers (2007) and Star Trek (2009) he is also responsible with running others into the ground.

Whether it be the Universal Monster’s franchise with the Mummy (2017) or the abysmal Amazing Spider Man 2 (2014) I just don’t get why he still gets work when he can’t deliver consistently.

The same can be said for the small screen. It’s hard to see how successful the new crop of Star Trek shows are since Paramount doesn’t reveal streaming numbers, and judging by the new Clarice tv show, I don’t see how Paramount or any other big distributor can put faith in him. Sure he can rake in some numbers, but is just as if not more likely to fail as well

Considering all his big stuff is with Paramount he seems to be a case of connections,Running off launching two blockbuster franchises and being reliable to atleast provide a small hit.

That's why Zack Snyder had a string of misses but was able to get Superman because he knew the right people and still had some credit off "Dawn Of The Dead" and "300".

In Hollywood alot of times it isn't talent but who you know or how long you been working somewhere that determines your lane.

Paul WS Anderson is like that too he never leaves his lane and even tho the Rrsident Evil films aren't acclaimed or loved even by fans they made enough.

He's even producing the new reboot

Got lucky by working with people much more talented than him enough to get his own name. And now studios look at his name attached to those hits so they think he’s a good bet

I feel like I could apply this same take to Damon Lindelof, but he’s had more success

Same crop of quality, but more universal acclaim

Probably, but it doesn’t let the studios hinge on him delivering a hit

They probably see him as a reliable person to bring back brand recognition rather than show running or producing a completely new original series.

That, plus the JJ Abrams-esque descendants of Michael Bay type writing, it’s easy to see how he can draw casual viewers in

    Why not?

I mean considering how much acclaim Lost and The Leftovers are given it’s easy to say so. He just doesn’t retain the bombed franchise catalysts that Kurtzman did

I mean he did semi-setup the new Alien movies for failure, and World War Z and Tomorrowland weren’t exactly hits, but the two aforementioned shows do give him more leeway making studios eye him as a better choice than a Kurtzman

Does shows are better than anything Kurtzman has done or attempted to do, and they are recent in the Letfovers case. He also has Wacthmen, which isn't a masterpiece but its still pretty good tv.

    • His movie productions consistently turn a profit.

    • He has lots of experience with recycling old IPs which are low-risk productions with predictable results.

    • His movie work often involves the type of movie that receives extended life through regular broadcasts on cable television (e.g., transformers and star trek play all the time, year-round).

    • His career in TV work has led to half a dozen series that have received network syndication.

From an industry standpoint, there's very little reason, if any, why he wouldn't continue to get work.

Pretty much this. Money talks, and the movies he's worked on in the mid-2000s thru mid-2010s brought in a combined total of over 3 billion dollars. He's basically set for ages, regardless of how terrible most of his output is.

For memory he does actually some kind of big money industry connection too, like his father in law is some exec or some s***? I can't quite recall the story.
