because he was spittin'
c'mon you just cherry picking his goofiest songs and lyrics
Part of Ems appeal was that he was very vulnerable. I don't know how people always bypass that when having these discussions.
everyone was dissing mj back in the day
Not everyone did it to the degree em did....
"everyone"
Em is a rapper right? where is jay z's nas', Wu tang's video mocking mj???

Didn't see many rappers mocking R Kelly either. Em kept doing it for years and now dude is in prison, and guess what, Em still dissing him lol
I know the MJ thing wasn't proved, but the media tried hard to make us think he did it.
The media had been trashing MJ globally before Em did. Same with Amy.
This line of thinking confirms my thought that eminem never had an original thought process or an actual sociopolitical stance in his music of any sort but just parroted the media or hot topics to cause controversy + say off the wall s***

by that logic why didn’t they speak out on it when Em did it?
or better yet, why didn’t Dre stop him (since he produced most of those songs)?
a lot of people back then were looking at MJ like we look at R Kelly now
me personally, i was a MJ fan then and still am, but i vividly remember all the hate he was getting in the media from all angles
Had the industry pushing him like crazy, had huge songs and more people bought cds back then
op gotta be 21 or younger to not know why. that time period was way different then it was now. it had shock value and everyone was tuned in
you had to have been old enough to witness the strength of trl rankings

Em made parody videos of what was going on when he was about to drop. Just like he did with Bin Laden, Britney's shaved head, Amy's d*** problem,...
Just say most people who buy music are white.
edgy
white
abusive
Ignorant
Misogynistic

White people were buying Em, don't try to make it like it was only edgy kids.
A lot of edgy music was being made btw, you had Linkin, Offspring, MM, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit,... He had a lot of competition specially making "black music".
also he had crazy crossover appeal w non rap fans like if you were listening to hot topic music it’s a good chance you prolly f***ed w Eminem as well but prolly weren’t listening to lil Wayne

Just like any rapper that got BIG, like 50, Wayne, Kanye,...

He mocked mj looks and Pepsi incident as well
Where is his video mocking r Kelly???
If by mocking him you mean his bars, em does that to any hot topic - he went at plenty celebs for no reason at all besides the fact they were popular and in the news alot...
Ie:Christopher reeve (superman actor)
Sidenote : I haven't found any rkelly bar pre-kamikaze era (the mgk bar) and by that time r Kelly was heavily in the news for his crimes

no one said that it was only edgy white kids
if it came off like that’s what i meant then let me re-phrase
there are a significant number of edgy white kids who bought Eminem records to bump sales, a number of them being extremely loyal.
There were also average white kids who bought his records.

Eminem is the biggest artist in the world that still gets 100% controlled by his label, you can tell by all the 🚮🚮 he been dropping, sounds straight out of a all white male boardroom
Em made parody videos of what was going on when he was about to drop. Just like he did with Bin Laden, Britney's shaved head, Amy's d*** problem,...
He's a bad comedian.

hip hop community as a whole was f***ing with him back then too tho cause of dre.
he was rocking the stage on the up in smoke tour with dre, snoop, and cube. and those fans are a tough crowd to impress
Firstly he was a part of the late 90s trend of Pac esque rappers, just the white version of it. That’s important to understand in the context of his time. Then he was the first white rapper to appeal to white middle America to get big + crazy technical skill and hit making ability + Dre co-sign legitimizing him, not to mention his production helping him a lot
He spoke to a real group of people that weren’t being spoken to in rap, a group that just so happened to have a lot of buying power. Outside of Em, anyone who does this is gonna sell a lot so imagine how big it’ll be if that group is white middle Americans
Everybody was going platinum during the ringtone era, Yung Joc has a Grammy.
iirc it was because everyone was still buying full albums to get the singles
He mocked mj looks and Pepsi incident as well

Then you didn't search much. He's been trashing Kelly since forever. It's Em, he loves pissing jokes.
Everybody made fun of MJ look, he was the male version of Lil Kim. His musix was dope, but he f***ed his whole face up.
