I take seven emcees put 'em in a line
And add seven more brothers who think they can rhyme
Well, it'll take seven more before I go for mine
Now that's twenty-one emcees ate up at the same time

This why he top 5 OP

niggas on here be unironically putting lil uzi vert and asap rocky in they top 5

but putting the man who made "paid in full" and influenced pretty much the entire genre is corny

First time I listened to Paid And Full and quickly realized this man's lyrics have been sampled so much

He washed prime Jay so effortlessly he’s gotta be top 5.

Because he was a head of his time, nobody in the 80s was spitting like RA back then

yep way ahead of his time as far as rhyming patterns

rap before him was very much nursery rhyme / simplistic

like "basketball is my favorite SPORT, I like the way they dribble up and down the COURT"

Rakim brought about complex, multisyllabic, and internal rhymes

  • Mar 28, 2022

you can still hear Rakim's rhyming style in some of the biggest rappers today lol. Drake, Kendrick, Cole, etc.
