How complicated/time-consuming is the tax system? Or are they just slow
I pay someone as well but only because I'm legally required to as an entrepreneur

Complicated in what sense, doing your own taxes?

Yeah
Are the forms particularly far-fetched

Blank pages fam! And god forbid you have a "special circumstance" like an additional form to deduct student loan interest
IRS is holding up my gf's return over some medical form. She called them, got transferred to the tax lawyers, and even they couldn't tell her why she needed the form, only that "the system said its missing"
Yeah

I'm young and I don't have many forms, so mine is fairly simple.
The process for the average person isn't that overwhelming granted they haven't worked like sixty jobs and do a bunch of different s***.
Different jobs means multiple W2s or W4s (different types of papers you fill out depending on if you're a contractor or if your employer handles your s*** and etc) and so and so forth. Then there's more stuff to add on if you have kids. And so on and so forth.
Can get pretty complicated if you've never done it and have a lot of s*** to file for I guess, but some people just never wanna learn.
Better to learn from the start and keep at it. People could file themselves with guides online on the internet, shouldn't take more than a hour or two.

Thank you so much for explaining the general guidelines of the system to me, it's genuinely appreciated

There's really a s***load of layers to it when it comes down to it tbh. So many ways to file and some are better than others and so on and so forth. Guess that's why some people just pay others - it's easier to just get someone to do it for you, but I'd rather learn it myself.

I presume there's a s*** ton of tricks to give less money? Or is that just for really wealthy people
H&R block for free just look at your W-2 and copy the info from the boxes.
Its easy unless you have different dependents or child support, a business, etc

not necessarily
You have to pay attention and take your time reading through each prompt
but there might be tax credits that people don't even know the can claim

For really wealthy people, yeah.
Say you make $10 million. Your goal is to get that as low as possible so you can get taxed less. That's where people go and get deductions on s*** so it doesn't look like it was all profit. And then they claim some things for the business and etc and etc.
Turns out you "didn't make $10 mill", you only made $4M because you deducted your business expenses. Boom, tax bill is less.
(At least that's my understanding of how people will use the tax system to their advantage)
