first, i rarely ever post on KTT at all so just know this is coming from a genuine place - not some psyops hate thread which there are like tons of on this site lol. but i also think u guys would have the answers.

over the last decade, i've been passively interested in abel's music. i think the trilogy tapes are really solid + i love kiss land's title track - probably my favourite song of his i've heard by a long shot.

i guess i'm making this thread bc i want to get deeper into his music, but i feel like despite everything i'm hearing on the records, i'm not actually being able to learn a lot abt him.

    • maybe its bc i'm not listening hard enough. so what should i revisit? are there any key interviews i should check out? artist profiles? features?

my interest in him has really been re-invigorated by after hours + his collabs with oneohtrix point never especially (that save your tears remix is everything). really like when artists of his stature still find ways to change it up.

anyway - will stop rambling. what are some key weeknd materials that get people into his stuff heavy? thanks!

Bro what? Listen to his all albums lol. Personally kiss land was a grower for me but became my favorite Abel project

  • Jul 18, 2020

He just dropped a cool song called Greece!

HoB is my favorite project by him OP but I’m not sure if it’ll grasp you like it got me because it feels like it’s one of those “you had to be there” moments. Either way GL in your journey it’ll be worth it

i love house of balloons! i guess i'm moreso asking weeknd fans/stans/w.e what i can check out to supplement the records. like im super into the thursday/hob/eos vibe but

up until this point ive only been able to look at those like dope records - but i don't have any attachment to abel himself through these songs. + im looking for things i can read/watch/listen to to add to my understanding of his artistry

sorry if i'm not articulating it properly lol

If you weren’t high and sentimental when Trilogy dropped then you can’t possibly achieve peak fandom.

The one thing you gotta realize is that a lot of our connections to the music and whatnot have been formed over the course of the years. That type of thing isn’t gonna come over night

Well, it's easy. You like a certain song/album? Or the way he sings, or a line that you relate to, or makes you think "wow, this was well written", or a production decision (i.e. the up and downs in pitch on "Initiation"), or the emotion he transmits to you?

Search for a thread, and read how others felt about that particular element, and participate, share your thoughts. Even better, start your own thread. After all, that's the scope of musician fan forums, we gather to talk about the music. xotwod :)
