I've seen some people who are desperate to increase their following on IG without having to buy followers and create quality engagement. This is the method that i've been using since last summer and helped me tremendously increase my followers with quality people. I went from 500 and something followers all the way up to ballpark of 2200. Here are my steps:

1. Tidy up your instagram profile:

This entails having good profile picture (Making you look normal and not like a basement dwelling dude/gal), gives off a good first impression to the person you requested to follow. Have good pictures too and I usually keep my profile to public

2. Start clicking follow on mutual followers, if you know what I mean. Instagram has a feature where it shows people the mutual followers and therefore be encouraged to follow you back.

3. Rinse and repeat however many times you like, just remember though instagram has a daily follow limit

From my experience, about 25% of the people I request to follow usually end up following back and take this from an average guy. Your mileage may vary depending on your circumstances
