haven't paid more than 4.5k for a semester and i most likely will not, shout-out community college and a primarily online 4 year college.
Subsidized govt loans, if that’s not enough do unsub govt loans. Also stay in your state and go to a public uni. Here in Cali my tuition for in state public uni was only like 6k a year.
I promise the people in OP went to private schools and took out private loans. Not that it makes it ok the situation they are in, but you can avoid it
this
my cousin went to private uni before switching to public, she's >$110k in debt already (and plans to go to law school later)
meanwhile i went to CC -> transferred to public in-state uni, graduated with just around $10k in subsidized debt.
man tuition in the States be on some other s***
I was paying no more than 3.5k a semester for a B.Sc in Canada & I went to my province's major university
OP if you've gotta take out loans, just don't take out more than the starting salary for your major. it's a pretty good rule of thumb.
Those examples is what happens when you only pay your minimum payment every month
Facts.
student loans situation in America is crazy, here in Italy I pay like 1000€ a year for my university and I know of people that pay as little as 16€ a year
I know america's universities might be better, especially in scientific fields, but I don't think it's that big of a difference that could justify those prices
maybe I am missing part of the picture completely

Nah it really is that s***ty here in mostly every facet
Are those private loans in OP? Their interest rate is probably horrendous.
Get grants, scholarships and subsidized federal loans.
i don’t see how first twitter post in op is true, there’s been an interest freeze since covid began
unless they were private loans or some s***
Some of these have to be private loans. I have loans too. I have been paying just above the minimum for several years now and only have $3,000 left total. At no point have I paid it off and watched my total increase.
biggest tip is don't go to an expensive school for a useless degree. once you graduate with your degree and get a good job evaluate how you wanna proceed. if it makes more sense for you to pay off your loans then prioritize that and don't the interest finesse you like the bozos in that tweet
for me personally I still owe about 70,000 in loans but it doesn't make sense for me to pay it off because my loans are low interest and I make much more money investing that 70k in my portfolio
if you decide to pay it off then you need to be tacking on at least a couple hundred extra on that minimum if you wanna be done with it in a few years

what kind of college is 6k a year and not a community college? Most PA schools are at least like 20k

in state tuition for the CUNY (city university of new york) schools is $7,000 and after aid the average cost is only $3,000. some pretty good schools such as Hunter, Baruch for business, and City College. you only get that price if you live in NYC tho
if you live out of state tuition balloons to over $20,000 a year
