  • I spent my formative years listening to hip hop music and have recently started writing my own bars down. My notepad is full of lyrics, from individual sixteens to full length “songs.” I’ve gotten really good at writing from the voice of the rappers that I listen to, but I’ve found it difficult to develop my own voice. Additionally, I am white and from the suburbs so I cannot perform almost any of my own bars because they either describe experiences that I have clearly not lived or use words that I cannot say. Even my more politically conscious raps are out of the question because almost all of them center on what it’s like to be a black man in America. I don’t think that these bars should go to waste because, in my opinion, they are good quality. Is there any way for me to either start a career ghostwriting, or to sell my raps individually?
