It is just mind-bending how a 20/21 year old without a particularly strong musical background released House of Balloons
Not going to call it 'lightning in a bottle' because Abel has proved time and time again how insanely talented he is
But these sessions really do exemplify that notion of 'lightning in a bottle', who knows what kind of energy was in the studio at the time, honestly just perfect timing mixed with perfect talent
i think it was inevitable that the mix of dream pop and R&B in the late 00’s - earl 10’s was inevitable with the return of 80’s aesthetics in the internet through chill wave
the fact that it happened through someone like Abel is probably the only time i can think of a creative opportunity to innovate truly being taken to the maximum
