I think this is a very interesting topic, Im mostly going to be talking about the classic albums too
Like
Dre was literally dissing Eazy on the first song on one of the most iconic albums oat and ofc they both ate from it back then but since they regretted all that later even tho Dre Day is still a GREAT song how does it feel your best art piece is an arrogant attack to your late friend?
Funnily enough Eazy literally got a whole album for dissing too
its also like half of his solo discograhpy is dissing too.
I mean again they did it for numbers probably but I think it looks kinda bad for BOTH of their legacy.
(it's on is one of the most underrated diss song oat btw)
And like this one both Blueprint and Stillmatic also almost starts with diss songs and unlike the first examples I dont think it fits as well to the theme of those album. At that time I would enjoy it when it dropped but now when i listen I dont want to listen to a Diss song on an amazing soulful touching ablum like Blueprint or I find Ether in an album talking about brotherhood --bloof of a slave heart of a king-- it doesnt sit with the concept right.
So In general I think its good for that moment but not good for the legacy or longevity or the album.
For example I think Kendrick always did a good job with that. Yes It wasnt even his song but Control not being on any album is nice. He always prioritzed the direction and the concept of his albums and thats why he keep making classics imo.
What yall think. Idk If Im making sense I got influenza a i am aching but lmk
If it's a classic it really don't matter. Nas and hov are cool now, but ether is still iconic. Still bodybag.mp3
If it fits the album vibe I think it's kinda cool
2Pac The Don Killuminati was him dissing the entire rap world basically

Yeah but he been on his the world against me thing for a min. so dont think it would ever bother anybody he was always random I think its bad/problematic when the artist is trying to give a message with an album and randomly puts a diss song on it just to give it a platform or use the numbers,, thats really bad for the project imo

Well there you have it. All about execution
50 Cent best album is full of diss songs
the secret to making diss songs is to also make them hits
Can’t believe mfers at the time thought Ether was better than Takeover. The former was literally high school name calling. ‘gay-z’
Life After Death basically a diss album too. If its a classic its a classic
i still giggle when i remember this skit in the beginning
the secret to making diss songs is to also make them hits
Thats actually a very interesting approach
50 made it feel like it was a SONG and he was dissing
most others rappers are Dissing and trying to make a song out of it
50 might be the goat of that tbh
