The production is gassed because it’s Ye. I honestly feel like the sound is a little bit dry personally, and it’s some pretty basic sample work. And particularly the What Would Meek Do beat just isn’t very good

Seems like maybe you buy into the whole “online consensus” thing too much which is exactly the type of thinking imo that leads to Daytona being so praised. It was the right album at a moment for a new breed of hip hop fans, I really just don’t believe that it’s praised because the production is fundamentally better than any of Ye’s other recent works, the project just lined up in a lot of ways and pusha did his thing. The production is decent but mostly unremarkable and only notable for giving Pusha room to shine

I get that Daytona gets a lot of love from the new age hip hop fans but that doesn’t make the project prestigious to me. Just beat for beat, it’s not a top 20 production piece of the 10s and I don’t think that’s a major hot take or deviation from some established consensus.
