critical acclaim always been a criteria to determine classic albums. Let's not rewrite history

It's slowly cracking my top 10, all genres, as well

Pulitzer is just an accolade, you’re right.

    Let’s look at the metrics.

Commercially it was a success. Number one record. Diamond single. Three other multi platinum single. Like 5x platinum. But that’s just numbers so that alone doesn’t make something classic.

Critically acclaimed. Still on billboard after three years. Other albums like 4:44, Etc are off of billboard. The second most acclaimed rap record of the decade. But Kendrick is popular so let’s continue And disregard critical acclaim only because that alone doesn’t make something a classic.

Peers regard it as a classic. Joe Budden, common, talib Kweli, dj Dahi etc have all dubbed it a classic. But let’s say they just love everything kendrick Does and they are biased.

It’s now being taught as poetry in IB English and influenced acts such as Chvurches

Other than longevity there is literally no argument you can make against it being dubbed a classic.

The critics love it. The fans love it and still play it. The numbers back it up. The awards back it up. His peers holds it in high regard. Non genre organizations recognize it as amazing.

I don’t see the argument against it other then it has only been out for three years Or you personally don’t like it.

That’s why I gave you a reason for every metric. But of course you mention one.

There is no other album you can bring me that hits all those metrics. Not one that isn’t considered a classic.

But you want to not include DAMN. because you personally don’t like it. And I didn’t only mention joe. I mentioned talib and common and Dahi 😂

I like DAMN its a great album why isnt that enough? Why cant something just be great y’all so quick to call anything a classic these days

We havent seen its significant influence on hip hop yet

We all know why they gave the pulizter to Kendrick its not a fair metric since alot other rap albums before it wouldve deserved it too

Aint Talib banned on twitter for harassing a black woman? Dahi produced on DAMN what else is he going to say

It’s been three years of course it’s not highly influential as yet. But Ijust said longevity is the only things that’s keeping it from being hailed a classic.

And the influence doesn’t have to be hip hop related. It’s influenced passed hip hip into other genres.

But again. You are just justifying why you personally don’t find it a Classic and that doesn’t count. I don’t care what talib did on twitter. He is a hip hop legend. So is joe and common. Lol.

it is a classic, whether you like it or not. Like whippey said, a classic isn't determined by an individual opinion like yours. You enjoying/disliking the album has nothing to do with it being a classic.

I believe this album is flawless, like absolutely flawless, and my individual opinion is still not changing its "classic" legacy. It is classic without my opinion, and without yours.

A classic also doesn't need to be influential...usually only 1 of the 3 criteria is enough for it to be a classic. In DAMN's case, everything is checked anyway. Also, Talib kweli is only one of the 15000 legends that praised it as a classic. Even if we don't count his opinion, there's still 14999 other legends agreeing with him.
