Kanye was jealous of Virgil's success in Fashion, which he was having before the recent Ye/Push/Drake saga.
Does that sound like a man that is holding him back in that moment? It sounds more like he let Virgil spread his wings and feels competitive enough about it to feel jealous if anything, which to me isn't inherently a wrong feeling when you are determined to be at the top of your field.
