If that verse was on any other song, it would be the s***tiest verse of all time.
Conversely, if any other verse besides that one was on this particular track, it wouldn’t fit. It’d be too abrasive. Out of place. Forced.
The verse needed to match the gentleness of the song. And that’s exactly what it did. Thinking is supposed to be minimal while listening to this song. The verse was a success.
Discuss.
My problem isn’t how the verse is delivered, it’s what’s said in the verse. The whole Jesus thing just isn’t for me so hearing him ask Jesus to do all these things over and over for him is really what turns me off from the verse
his delivery just feels a bit too lazy like hes reading it off a paper
probably did that
It's not a bad song and the beat is amazing but it turned out to be one of my least favorite songs on JIK. I feel like the whole track had more potential thinking back to the 5-6 minute live version we heard at some point. It ended up being weirdly stripped-down and that verse feels a bit lackluster, like that's an idea he had last minute.
The prayer thing seems to be a popular argument here but idk. If you have to explain music in such ways to make people like it, something went wrong imo. You gotta feel it and I feel like that verse is one of the lowpoints on JIK, for sure. Overall, I think we gotta realize that Ye rushes a lot of s*** these days... sadly. He's a genius but we gotta be real, if he doesn't take his time for his vocals there's just no way s***'s gonna be up to his extremely high standards. Trying to sugarcoat everything is the wrong way.
