Kool Keith is extremely talented and that’s an understatement. I feel like he is overlooked based on his name alone. If someone heard it and didn’t know who he is or what his music sounded like, you’d probably think he’s one of those “hip hop hippity hop” type early rappers. But his music is tough as hell and he has some of the best production of the 90’s. His flow is nearly flawless in his music. Everyone acclaims DOOM, but Keith was doing DOOM’s whole thing earlier than him and did it just as well. Wanted to bring up that Danny Brown’s non-serious lyrics feel exactly like they were written by Keith. He just deserves more recognition as a talented and very entertaining rapper.

Real ass thread. He really has an incredible discography, insane flows, an incredible artistic mind, and his influence can’t be overstated. I don’t think people really get how many people in the game either would look a lot different or simply wouldn’t exist were it not for Kool Keith

I wouldn't say Keith is overlooked like that. Plenty of rappers have shouted him out or cited him as an influence, including DOOM who also did several songs with him.

But Keith never chased commercial success at any point in his career so it's a given that casual rap fans will overlook him. But he gets props from rappers and hardcore rap fans all the time and his album, Dr. Octogonecologyst, gets tons of recognition in rap circles. I remember seeing it pop up on the net immediately back in 07 when searching similar albums to Deltron 3030.

start with his album Dr. Octagon. he has a ton of alter egos with different styles, but the one considered his masterpiece is Dr. Octagon’s first album. it’s really creative, same exact vibe as Captain Murphy
