Yes OP listen to seiji oda. You can't play these and be in a bad mood
Can’t see much of a solution outside of introducing gatekeepers
As in gatekeepers to keep lousy artists that do more harm than good to the genre out, or to keep the prejudiced individuals away? Gatekeepers won't do anything for prejudiced ppl since they don't engage to begin with and most of their takes are founded "facts" from their ass and legit racism.
Music in general taps into a certain human emotion, thus can lead to an unstable psyche.
For myself, I'm able to separate the wrongdoings of the content (such as violence, sex, d*** use etc.) & am able just to enjoy the music/art for what it is.
But it def can affect others.
I used to be like you then I heard this:
!https://youtu.be/_uwqM3VaobU?si=FhOYPuY0qR0aUnQu!https://youtu.be/lfiSvLqzXqs?si=4neTpn5AACqCp_emYou just not silly enough I guess
Nothing to do with me not being able to be silly, I just find his voice and delivery obnoxious personally
Music is very powerful, much more than people believe. If you’re putting bullshit in your ears 24/7, don’t be surprised when you feel like bullshit and have bullshit thoughts. It’s the main reason I don’t listen to violent rap anymore, and also why i generally stay away from depression-themed raps
Some good rappers who’s music won’t make you feel like s***: blu, smino, 454, oddisee, the cool kids, sir Michael rocks, valee, common (new album with Pete rock is great), tisakorean (will make you dance), little simz, sixpress, the underachievers
Also instrumental music is great of course
Great post, I was about to post Tisa and 454
Bear1Boss is another rapper making fun music

Him being obnoxious is part of the appeal for me

Only partially lines up with all you said in the first post tbh. I don't listen to RXK, but both Tyler and Skepta aren't necessarily very violent rap music. At least, not nowadays. I mean Skeppy indulges, but I find him quite balanced, releasing a lot introspective music as well.
I say that but it was 90%< RXK and that man is a demon in human form. He occasionally raps about more neutral subjects like how much he loves his girl, the hardships of his life, or the grind to success, but most of it is about the trap, selling crack, and crime. It wouldn't be so easy to sell if he didn't have such a charismatic and absurd form of lyricism and good beat selection, but man I wish he would explore the former subjects more.
Obviously therein lies my problem but I've got obsessive habits when it comes to listening to one artist at a time, but I've getting better broadening my horizons lately.
Tyler isn't really really violent at all and Skepta is only part time, but both have a great range of tone and subject matter.
Him being obnoxious is part of the appeal for me
Not knocking it either just different strokes for different folks

Yeah thats what it boils down to is some being more receptive to what they hear than others and I fall into that camp, for better and for worse, but beyond that it heavily dictates the hot sounds, nature of upcoming artists, and reputation of the genre. I remember we hit a near all time low in integrity a few years back when dissing dead opps was the trend.
RXK Nephew and Tyler the Creator mostly some Skepta here and there. Aside from that random soundcloud artists. Mostly RXK though (last year I was his #2 highest listener on Youtube, no lie)
skepta has such a variety of sounds but i can see how the grime stuff can do that to you
U gotta listen to the British s***, same vibe but hella humorous when you play out the lyrics they saying in your mind

It was less Skepta and more RXK, I explained it a few posts above yours
