I’m not concerned about legality as in this instance I’m not interested in money.
I was on the train a couple days ago and sitting in front of me was a low-functioning autistic guy. He’s making noises throughout the entire train ride. However, some of his noises sounded very interesting melodically, and some of them sounded like good adlibs. I pulled out my phone and secretly recorded his “noises” (I don’t know the politically correct term).
Anyway I’m listening to them now and some of them sound really cool. Is it ethical for me to sample a low-functioning autistic person?
the proper term is called field-recording, and yes, you can sample people and use it as background noise or warp the sample entirely to make it sound different.
Is it ethical to assume he’s autistic? Is it ethical to act like sampling an autistic person is any worse than a normal person? Who the f*** knows anymore.
