dam 30 secs in idk how i haven't heard this. this typa hip hop is my s***
Yeah as others have said, check out his first few LPs
Wish I could hear The Fighters or this song for the first time again
A tearjerker bro.
Listen in release order
Yes, even lasers. That will make T&Y even sweeter
Skip drogas light though
from like 2006-2009 you could make a case Lupe was the perfect/best rapper.
Like if it was a video game stat sheet, Lupe was Madden '04 Vick.
He really was until Lasers ruined his streak. Afterwards its been a rollercoaster. I think T&Y is his best album the production, and the hooks are his best and I really like the abstract raps. Drogas Wave is good but I feel like he got wayyy too complicated on that album on certain songs and it's a lil bloated, too many songs.
He actually had a rock project called Japanese Cartoon

The biggest knock on Lupe (I can say as a stan) that kinda hurt him was he always had a big mouth.
He always had the dopest ideas for collab projects that never came to fruition (All city chess club with all them rappers and of course Child Rebel Soldier (him, pharrell, and kanye), we got a song out of that though)
He got into it with Tribe fans because he messed up lyrics for Electric Relaxation during a hip hop tribute show and posted about it on okayplayer explaining he didn't grow up on Tribe. That pissed some people off.
And honestly up to now, where he s***s on his old catalog and his new catalog depending on the day? It's confusing, like Lasers he claims now was intentional but during that process it was a whole blog where he was b****ing about Atlantic and how they were holding the album for hostage and s***.
And like now, he says he aint a good rapper cause he focuses more on bars over the music. He's kinda confusing individual.
With all that said, he's still a legend that played a major part for black kids that were different before that baton was passed onto Tyler.
Lasers and drogas light are his two bad albums
Cool, F&L, and T&Y are classic status and drogas wave (not light) is very good
his songwriting is still masterful today though. Even in his whole "lyrical miracle" thing he can still script powerful s*** like this.
This one of the best songs (across all genres) of the last decade @op

It's honestly what can separate a rapper with a great hook game from one that doesn't.
This nigga's hook game is f***ing crazy.
Love is looking over various errors
And hate is habitually accelerating terror
Everywhere, but the mirror, oh
It's not that many rappers that will say s*** that have you just thinking "yo...how did you come up with that"
Yeah as others have said, check out his first few LPs

this is crazy b
if you go further, be warned @op that Lupe starts becoming a looooooooooooooooooot more lyrical/bar-heavy after Lasers. Depending on how you feel about that it may effect your enjoyment level on some of his later works.
But it did give us joints like this

op should definitely check out all of TimesNuRomans breakdowns
^^ this tracks is easily one of Lupes best, especially if you want to dive into his earlier technical stuf

love his channel, but that's the thing bout old technical lupe is that you don't need a youtube for songs like Switch or Twlight Zone lol.
Switch is actually pretty simple. It's just no one ever approached a song with that idea before lol.

not at all. I'm still here for anytime Lupe drops something even today. He even did a beautiful and powerful tribute to Arbery featuring Virgil (RIP)
One of my favorite from him, also one of my favorite storytelling rap song. It's so simple but effective
Man we gotta give this nigga his flowers
I'm still f***ed up over losing DOOM and after everyone we lost last year we really gotta just be thankful for a lot of these niggas man.
Thinking bout it. Chicago really had the game on lock round that time Lupe was poppin
