Ngl American hodpitald have too many healthcare resources to not have a universal healthcare system.

Kind of a waste to have the best healthcare providers, technology, etc but health provider shortage areas and gatekeeping levels of insurance prices

People really think in Europe you just call the doc and say “hey I need brain surgery” and they just go “sure thing pal come in tomorrow, it’s on the house”

This girl would be waiting for months or even a year to get this surgery done in Europe

At least in America if you have the funds you can be in and out ASAP. People never talk about how important this is. Imagine having to wait 6 months to have cataracts removed from your eyes.

That free health care s*** is not all sunshine and rainbows.

    Yeah this is cap fam.

I work in a hospital in Austria which you can consider a developed country.

I've worked for a few months in our ocular department which is one of the most known ones in europe because of our professer who was one the first to do laser surgeries in Europe. He even has a private clinic in miami but thats offtopic. For cataract surgeries people wait never longer than 2 to 3 months max. Thats only if the cataract is recent and hasnt developed much yet.

Besides, the fact that you took that procedure for your argument is stupid given the fact that this is literally something people live with their entire lifes without sometimes even noticing it. So its not a danger to your life like something related to the brain like the girl in the article.

People usually, even since corona hit, get their surgeries within a month or two. If its life threatening or acute they get treated immediately with no additional costs which basically the insurance covers for ya.

Insurance costs about 100 to 200 euros a month for people with average income and usually your employeer has to pay that which means you pretty much dont even pay for that.

Now, if you want the luxury of not waiting at all or maybe a few days you have 3 options in Austria and most european countries.

    A) its acute and cannot be pushed back for a different date

    B) You are a child. Children below the age of 14 are always getting their surgery appointment before the other ones but after the necessary ones. Thats why the girl would most likely get her surgery within a week in most 1st world countries like Germany, France or Austria.

    C) You have a higher level of insurance or private insurance like in the US. Now this does give you the option to get your surgery pushed to the top. You can also choose your doctor for your surgery but most times you can also do that even if you dont have private surgery. Now the only downside is that it costs extra. Its a huge number.. wait for it.. about 50 to 150 euros depending on all the benefits you want lmaooo.. trust me.. this is literally nothing here.

Stop capping for a health system in the US that is only working for profit when yall used to have the first medicare for all system in the world post WW2 but decided to go for profit in the 70s and f***ed up your whole health system.

You guys used to be at the forefront of medical advancement but you've been overrun by europe and most of asia in the last 30 years because of that. The majority of todays achievemnts in the health sector today are not coming out of the US. So how can you argue that its better than the medicare for all system that literally every developed country in the world is applying except the US

Universal Healthcare should be a right

Yeah except in countries with Universal Healthcare ppl are prioritized by need and not because of wealth

America's health care system is so f***ing backwards it makes me sick

How are we the most dominant force in the entire world but we can't even guarantee a f***ing 7 year old that her family won't go bankrupt if she gets proper treatment

    1. The rest of the world does not have a Medicare For All System
But your right the USA sucks irregardless
You mean Universal healthcare. You're conflating two similar but not literally the same things
    2. >You guys used to be at the forefront of medical advancement but you've been overrun by europe and most of asia in the last 30 years because of that. The US is absolutely not getting overrun in medical advancements?

    Are you on cocaine?

Also Europe and most of Asia?
Europe has been a heavy contributor to medical advancement for longer than 30 years??????????????????????????? Why are you acting like Europe just blew up?

And Asia? China and Japan you mean lmao? They've been winning Nobel Prizes in Physiology for awhile. At least longer than 30 years ago

Also America did not have the first "Medicare for All" system either
(What does this even mean. America coined the term Medicare. It's not the first national insurance program in the world)

All the Euro s*** in this post is good
The America s*** and random Medicare 4 All references tho are wrong. The Medicare 4 All proposal in American legislature is not evident in any Country lol. I don't know why you keep bringing it up

Like every country has contributed to medical advancements but to act like the USA is getting blown the f*** out?

You can clearly google recent medical advancements and see that isn't the case.
To pretend the USA which hosts some of the best research institutions in the world is somehow getting literally BTFO, is hyperbole.

We're competitive as we've always been(And arguably still leading lol). Overrun is a massive exaggeration

Like this article is just concerning things from last year.

Acting like America is getting blown out in medical advancements to win a clear cut argument on America's s***ty healthcare system

And I did a research paper on CRISPR Cas9 and I swore Doudna was from the UK.

That aside, Science is a collaborative effort. American researchers make discoveries using data from other scientists and vice versa

You don't have to pretend America is getting washed in every single category. When research is one of the only things America does decently.

The issue with American healthcare is clear cut. Poor access and utilization of our healthcare resources.

No need for cap about how America is literally getting destroyed in biotech or medical advancements
