  • There seems to be a narrative on here that TDE “drops the ball” with their artists, and that they’re an awful label because they don’t force their artists to drop 5 albums every three years

yet q popped off with multiple hits in 2014 and That Part was huge in 2016

isaiah went up in 2016 (yes, he did, unless his youtube views are all fake, there are thousands upon thousands of people who make the same style of music as him that won’t ever break 250 views on soundcloud), and as much as people will love to deny this the reason he hasn’t dropped yet is because of him not being comfortable with his body of work

sza blew the f*** up in 2017

rock went up in 2018 with Win and King’s Dead (Let’s let literally any other label try and give JAY ROCK a hit, let alone 2 )

zacari and sir dropped dope projects that people liked last year as well (zacari has potential imo)

and we already know how kendrick is doing

so i just dont understand where this narrative comes from? If anything, I think it’s apparent that TDE genuinely cares about the artists they sign, and that they play the long game with them and actually develop them so they can have lasting careers

I really believe people don’t fw the fact they take their time with releases

  • Don’t sweat it op.

The fact that some people here even dislike Nav tells you all you need to know about this site

  • May 7, 2020

Sir is putting out good work too. Underrated label at this point.

I don't think they're doing bad either but I also think they could be doing better

also that recent single that Reason dropped was the worst thing i've ever heard

  • May 7, 2020

They gotta find something to bring TDE down. Glad it’s just a “they mishandle” artist narrative lol

not their fault he’s not good

him and lance are duds imo, but no label gets every one right

also Soul hope his next album puts him back on the map

The albums are good because the talent and artistry is there. Nobody doubts TDE has enormous talent. It's their management that's f***ing whack.

When was the last time the label did anything remotely exciting? Their own "TDE appreciation week" was a bunch of throwaway tracks from their B-list artists. Zay's comeback single after 4 years of silence was shoehorned in there and barely promoted.

And anyone who thinks they don't hold back music when the artists are ready to drop is flat out wrong.

And the end results are getting worse and worse. I swear, the last truly great project from the label was SZA or Kendrick and that was over 3 years ago.

but isaiah just recently finished his album and he’s up next month as they were probably figuring out a proper rollout? and who else could they be holding back? sza album isnt done either, and no one’s holding back kendrick

they dont hold artists any more than any other label, theyre not gonna be stupid and drop albums from multiple artists at the same time, you lot would be crying about that if it happened

and yes the fan appreciation week didnt feature the heavy hitters, but if that’s the only real criticism you can find then i once again ask where does this narrative really come from?

Sir put out a really solid project with some really tasteful, great tracks. Nothing revelatory or essential though.

If you follow any of those artists, you'd know it isn't just a "fan narrative" that the label holds their s***. I recognize that every single label holds back music to strategize releases, but it really seems to come at the artist's expense with TDE.

SZA saying music was coming "soon as f***" like mid last year... Bruh, didn't TDE literally pull Isaiah's Cave episode with kenny beats? Couldn't even let the people have a freestyle youtube video lol.

It’s just KTT record executives acting like they know how to run a successful label and handle these artists creatively and mood/mentally. Just drop everything without a plan or working out the business part of the music business first.
