the #1 objective worst genre of music is the genre of dance music that’s just s***ty covers of older popular songs that i constantly hear at the gym, like Im Blue, I Love You Baby, etc.

well that's because they're not licensed to play music for crowds of people, so they have to play royalty-free covers if they want music on, so there is reason behind it

just heard a Tiny Dancer remix as well, add it to the list

  • The worst one is when a struggle singer covers a song recorded by a fantastic singer. The autotune

Not really a genre, it's just people buying samples to recreate hits easily. It's not unique to dance music

  • op hasnt listened to electro swing

what one is that? Because I have most definitely seen multiple dance and electronic sub genres that do this with certain musicians, like from riddim to house to dubstep etc

but Ive also seen it with rap, country, various forms of rock, etc

I mean I'm sure this is one of the examples, and it is an offensively poor song

But it's just dance / house-ish that happens to be by a hack producer who probably got huge label money to make the trash, which isn't uncommon

If he's talking about this, I will be very upset (this is also a completely different electronic genre, future bass, which was a genre full of flips of old stuff too, but that didn't even make up like 40% of the genre the same way the blue song makes up like 5% of that genre) - both are electronic and dance tho

But edm/electronic fell off a cliff after 2018/19 and most the big songs are just major garbage in general now, it's not uncommon for the bigger mainstream songs to heavily rely on nostalgia bait instead of making a decent, original song

Back in the early 2010s, like before that, this was even worse with dubstep/bro step/complextro/whatever tf you want to call that wave

So many s***ty songs that consisted of a sample flip, copy pasted drums + stupid fruity loops synths.

I may or may not have contributed to that in high school

lmao some guy in my dorm hall back in 2015 saw i had a beat pad & asked if he could use it to flip a sample

he chose the first few seconds of this

he never wound up finishing it, but he was in the common area of the dorm hall blasting hooooOOOOOooOooOOOOOO… HOLD ONTO ME on loop for a good 90 mins straight tryna figure it out

  • That 2010-2014 era of House/Dance music DJ's running the charts was enjoyable but also so predictable. David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Kygo, Duke Dumont etc.

The song structures were so repetitive. Insert unknown singer, sings first verse, beat break, sings second verse, beat break, semi-bridge, beat break, end of song.

Thought I'd actually give this a crack since it sounded like such a horrible idea to sample
