Anyway I think this sites obsession with originality and comparison gets in the way of enjoying the music that’s in front of you.

Genuinely why does it matter that Bruno Mars don’t make groundbreaking, genre pushing music? He makes GOOD music.

to be fair tho, not every artist has to be a revolutionary traiblazer

some people just make amazing music

true, again im not putting Bruno down he makes amazing music, but tell me the drums to Finesse aren't extremely similar to Poison

It doesn’t matter at all IMO. It only matters if you’re trying to say he makes the best music of his generation or some s*** like that

Because I don’t think you can claim to be the best if you’re just following the blueprint laid out for you decades prior

That’s what I think separates Abel from him. He takes from the past to add to his own sound/style

he’s the perfect artist for older white women that drive Volkswagens

Weeknds first tape that blew him up came out in 2011. You’re sending me a song from 4 years later

nobody would deny that he sounds exactly like MJ even from HoB
    even abel wouldnt

damn near sounds like a actual remix

And there's nothing wrong with sounding like an iconic musician when you're giving us about the same quality

Bro ofc a literal cover is gonna sound similar to the actual song. That’s kind of the point. This is not a good example.

actually i think a cover is a great way to look at the emphases on what really differentiates artists

Artists from decades past didn’t reinvent the wheel either, everything always comes from somewhere.

That's his niche forreal, next album I need him to cover that period of early 80s quiet storm R&B next I could use some Debarge-esque Bruno jams

Dude look at house of balloons. Bro was singing about d**** and f***ing b****es sampling s*** like siouxie and the banshees

His music wasn’t really similar to the s*** MJ was making lyrically, aesthetically, production wise, etc. the only similarities are that their voices are similar

That's literally an MJ cover song, his voice is very similar to MJ's but that's it, yeah some of his songs like CFMF and A Lonely Night sound just like MJ musically, but Trilogy does NOT sound anything like MJ's music except for the voice

    Mr Motion

This such a shallow take. This just a polite way of saying he appropriates culture which is at least a 4 year old take now

Nah it’s a good point. He doesn’t add his own spin to things. I never listened to a Bruno Mars song and thought “only Bruno mars could put this together”. Nowadays yeah he’s the only one. But he’s only unique because of that

  • having talent means nothing, buskers have talent, if you have no originality and innovative nous you are another name on the playlist

EXACTLY, that sums up my point I never heard a Bruno Mars song that made me think "only Bruno Mars could've made this" but with songs like The Initiation, i know only the Weeknd is capable of that

yea my point is that he writes and sings like MJ

hes got different lyrical content but hes not exactly a paragon of originality

esp not the s*** that hes actually famous for how many people know about his trilogy s*** compared to the after hours cant feel my face 80s s***

  • no way ppl comparing bruno to the weeknd itt. bruno mars doesn’t have an original bone in his body

Exactly. Weeknd comparisons are unfair though. Dude is a trailblazer and had one of the most singular and recognizable sounds of our time w his old stuff.

  • Well I mean he did start his career off as a cover artist lol if you ever feel like his music is just copies of something much better...well that's likely the reason
