Thank you for listening man! Honestly, I appreciate every listen. This is the struggle people like me have to go through just to get a play; now you see why people don't like the concept of industry plants/fabricated backstories

Spammed my music (via email); spamming isn't always a bad thing, if the music is good.

    Whatever it takes, congrats man.

Exactly; if people end up liking it then that means it was good to spam (how else would they have heard it)? It's when the music isn't good that I see it as a problem

Music is dope. But of course, since this is KTT I have to ask:

What would you have done if your song was the sole reason it got dropped from a 9.0? :

The Outside has a wonderful instrumental and I like the lyrics. But I think I would’ve liked it better if the vocals were lower or more autotuned. Any particular reason, you chose this pitch?
Also had the same issue with Journey Towards.
You are clearly very good with instrumentals

I'm still relatively new (2 years, on and off) to making instrumentals - I'm mostly a vocalist and songwriter (check out the self-titled album on streaming to see what I'm talking about).

I chose these effects on my voice because I recorded my vocals, in my room, at 2 am in the morning (the entire vocals for the EP) in one 1 hour session. I wanted the vocals to take a backseat to the instrumentals; was using my voice almost like an instrument. This is not the case with most of my previous work (before this EP).

Edit: I don't really know why I chose that particular pitch; I wrote all the songs quickly and (almost) free-styled everything

Great decision to let the instrumentals shine because they are excellent and very interesting. I listen to a lot of Electronic albums with instrumentals only, so Im biased.
Vocal treatments always come down to personal preference so you have to trust your guts and your art.

Thank you so much, bro! Really appreciate this. I'll produce more often now. I'm slowly starting to prefer my own production over using other people's

what do you feel about the music?

Already listened to it, and told you my opinion, but Ill restate in more detail. Please don't take anything as a personal attack. I'd love to see you grow as an artist and i'd be willing to help in anyway but i'll give you my off the cuff run and gun critical a***ysis of the ep.

I thought the songs sounded drowned out and need more structure. Like it was hard to tell s*** apart, and really grasp on to any melodies.

I do like the experimental nature of the instrumentals. There are flashes of good moments with vocals but I think you need to be more concise.

The outside:Work on your voice and melody making. Also since the production is slow, doing spaced out vocals with a lot of instrumental in between for the entire song leaves too much negative space and really makes it harder to listen to the whole song. Make it more concise vocally and conceptually and fill in space. Also the mixing with the vocals wasn't the best, the vocals sounded drowned out like I stated before.

Journey towards:I think this track is a step in a better direction but the instrumental is so much over powering at times than the vocals especially the synths and the cords also don't sound in tune with each other (though I think you did this on purpose) it doesn't mesh well the vocals it just sounds off. The track felt like it had more meat to it than the previous though.

Stay away: This feels like it would be a good interlude. I don't think the vocals match the instrumentals again. I'm not sure if you're doing this on purpose or what but I feel like a song that is structured properly and is concise will sound like it fits and flows well with the production. This is a running critique I have with the entire tape. It just feels like the instrumentals don't match the vocals at all. And again with this track the vocals sound drowned behind the production.

Heal Afternoon: I don't think the simple synth cords on this track were better and I like bits and pieces of the instrumental, but it feels too linear. Like its a constant loop with slight changes, and while this can work, I don't think the synth chords provide enough character to be the heart of the song. It does have the second wave of chords that add more character but the instrumental just sounds incomplete. Like its lacking.
As far as vocally I feel like when someone isn't a technically sound singer there's two things you can do: Mix and filter your voice through cool effects that make it unique and utilizes it as more of an instrument is one route you can go. The other is just work on melody that just catches the ear and is undeniable. Add some flow to it. With this track it stood out to me that there is work that needs to be done in that category.

Overall I can tell you're talented and have potential, and are passionate about this. I think you need to really hone in on your skills and find what really sounds warming to the ear. I'd like to also say that cover art is important to me and I think if you really wanted to keep what your niece drew, edit it and add more to it. It's the same as mixing and mastering a track. You don't just take the pic and upload it raw. I think art direction is just as important as the music itself in a lot of cases.

I really hope to see you take this and use it to start creating more and just working on your s*** bro. I'll be all ears to hear anything you put out and give my opinion and critiques. I don't hold any punches when it comes to s***, i'm going to be as honest as possible as you can see.

Thanks a lot for the critique; it's hard for me to put into words what I'm doing - considering the experimental nature of it. I'm not an established artists, so I can't really say "listen to it a few more times" without sounding super pretentious. But I wanted to make music that, although not conventional, could start revealing itself more with repeated listens.

Thank you so much for the in-depth critique; I always take into account criticism, that's how I have always improved

glad bro and I know what you make is very unorthodox, which I can appreciate. And this is what I mean just to give you some examples. I took 10 mins to make this (not perfect cause I just whipped them up fast) but you can really experiment with the art and direction of s*** without killing off the original picture.

Just to put this EP into context

I’m meant to be doing my DPhil at Oxford University, self-funded. I f***ing hated my supervisor, so I left within a month of being in that research group.

Oxford were unable to help me; they didn’t realise I had severe depression and anxiety. I withdrew from Oxford in late January. Was given hope when I was given an interview for another DPhil course here. I felt a lot of bias vibes during that interview(s) - and it wouldn’t surprise me because some of them know my previous supervisor.

Now I’m forced to leave Oxford, back to London. Suffered from a nervous breakdown just after I finished recording this EP. I am - still - very unwell (4 weeks later) physically.
