Forgot to share this when it released but I made my first original score for one of my friendsā film school projects
Was a fun experience & definitely something Iād like to try again.. lmk what yāall think might release the score on SoundCloud
Also if anyone else has ever composed an original score before, please post it ITT trying to become more educated in the field
It sounds beautiful man! Reminds me of something from Johann Johannsson or Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein.
Curious as to how your approach changes from producing a score and a regular beat? Also, are there certain elements/techniques youāve picked up on making this that youād like to bring over to a regular hip-hop beat?

I still have those files saved and go back to them whenever I wanna get in that mood for a writing comp or whatever
I took a film score class a few semesters ago (I donāt major in music I just took it cause I make music) and had to score various things
It was pretty fun but what was ass was that I had a group project and nobody knew how to work a daw or make music... smh had to carry them

bruh why did they even choose that class
cause I spend the majority of my time listening and making music so I figured why not needed an elective

Oh f*** s*** my b im sleepy
I think itās cause most of them were film major people, or they majored in something sound related and not exactly composition. Itās an elective so they prob wanted to learn.
some did know instruments but couldnāt translate it to good ideas lol

Man idk scoring with vsts just seems way less cooler than a real orchestra. I know vsts can produce some insane ambient sounds though

True but a lot of people score with just kontakt libraries.
But congrats on the score OP. Not easy, and an under-appreciated task.

Was definitely a little inspired by the Stranger Things soundtracks w/ the soft synth sound selection
I pretty much just watched the rough cut of my friendās film a few times to get familiar with it, then ripped the audio (acapella) & imported it into my DAW
After that I just started going at it & found a nice BPM that synced up well with the length of the film. I decided to approach it as one big cohesive instrumental rather than composing different pieces for diff parts of the film since it was so short. Thatās why everything stays at a constant BPM & key throughout the whole vid
I definitely kept the sound in-line with how I already produce bc my friend gave me free-reign & asked me to keep it authentic to myself
As for the elements/techniques question, Iām already a super melody-driven producer so I didnāt really have to switch much up from my normal workflow, besides setting the moods & progressions w/ the corresponding scenes in the film
