Been attempting to make music for a few months, no prior experience, just put my first track on bandcamp

It’s still tweakable so I’d appreciate any intensely honest reactions or feedback

Mainly going for a wu tang, smif n wessun, dillenger type vibe- stuff method man might have freestyled over on a forgotten mixtape. But not entirely stuck in the past. Thats the mission statement but idk how to make this sound good. Anyway don’t be afraid to s*** all over it

this pretty cool. the samples are kinda out there, but thats not a bad thing. The switchup is pretty smooth too, but i think you could add more movement to the beat by working on arrangement

I think you basically did achieve the wu-tang esque vibe. The main issue I hear here is nothing is in key, so it sound dissonant in a bad way. I’d make sure all musical elements are in the same key.

the dissonance sounds intentional to me. but yeah, even dissonant things need to be in some sort of key

Damn thank you man, this is really helpful- do you just need to have an ear + training to get things in key, or is there a tool you use?

Dude, thank you for this- incredibly helpful. Any methods you use to get everything aligned in-key? But again, thanks for the legit constructive feedback

one big thing off the top of my head u could add is parallel compression on your drums, at least on the kicks, if u want that more old school sound and make it hit

but the samples the loop is all there man it's dope as hell couldnt hate on your s*** if i wanted to

An ear is pretty crucial, but it can be built trying something like this...

    1) Pick a key, let's call it A minor.
    2) Find a chord progression in A minor, record it.
    3) Now with that progression on loop, look up the notes in A minor and play those notes. Feel out how right they sound. Play some notes not in the key, feel out how wrong they sound.
    4) Try with different keys, you'll get it eventually.
