Okay so here’s the deal. This guy is willing to take a partial payment and hold the car so I can buy it Friday. Would you trust this? He doesn’t seem shady and I’m going directly to his house. He doesn’t want to give me the car or the title for some reason.

If something bad happens is there anything I can do? He’s on Facebook marketplace, hopefully there’s some sort of regulation in regards to these types of transactions. I’m thinking of asking if he’s willing to sign some sort of proof of purchase, but it would suck if things had to escalate and I’d have to like sue or some s*** like that because that’s really a waste of time.

Get it over with and sue his ass immediately

Bro if you’re going FB Marketplace you’re buying and selling at your own risk

Partial payment in exchange for the vehicle is fair because whose to say you don’t peel out with the car and don’t give him the remainder of the payment? That way he holds the title etc until he collects full payment

Usually you just present full payment and the title is given to you right there but due to your financial circumstances this may be a risk you have to take

  • Eh, I’d pass. Pay in full. It’s already Tuesday. Friday will be here in like 2 seconds.

If you already questioning the whole transaction why are you still going through with it. Trust your gut.

If you guys already exchanged this via text message then you can easily sue him because there’s enough evidence as a “contract” through you guys chatting.

If you established this over the phone , say something like, “just to make sure, you’ll hold the car for the partial payment of $___ I gave you right? “ when he replies with “yes” or the equivalent response that’s all you need to win a court case.

Moreover, of course he’s not gonna give you the title or car if it’s a partial payment lol. It’s considerate enough that the seller is nice enough to actually agree to hold it for you.

One huge deterrent to fraud is Facebook marketplace profiles are just a cop’s wet dream to catch someone acting foul. The fact that your information can be pulled up immediately if you do something shady on fb is a big enough deterrent because big brother is watching EVERYONE on that app.

Yea I have the conversation screenshotted and he explicitly mentioned he would hold it, but the only thing is there’s no refund so I’d basically have to take the car. He said he has 4 cars so I guess he’s tryna get rid of some.

@op do not give anyone money to f***ing hold the car dumbass you will get robbed

  • Feb 9, 2021

I'm telling you right now do not do this. Facebook Marketplace isn't going to help you with this s***. There's no guideline that will get you your money back.

You are literally going to get robbed. Pay in full and get the title or don't do it.

Don’t do it. Wait until you were ready to buy officially.

I just hope no one buys it before I can, he gave me his cash app but idk, if I get robbed I won’t have a car and I’ll lose my job because of lack of transportation so this is a huge gamble.

Wym no refund? Did you agree that if you changed your mind that he could keep the money? If you did, then that was a stupid thing to agree to.

Sounds like you’re rushing to get a car, don’t let the rat race get to you or you’ll be end up with a piece of s*** car that’ll run your pockets dry.

I can’t miss any more days at the job that I have that I actually like so I was rushing, I don’t have a carpool situation and my friend that has a car has COVID rn, so I was trying to hurry and get one.

I planned on raising my credit score and financing but I also still have to get my insurance rate lowered.

I think that the car, first of all, should be practical in case of breakdowns in the future. Since they will still be. I recently bought myself a Ford Focus, a very nice car, I really like it. But there is one problem with the gearbox, I studied a lot of information to study the problem that I have, I used the site at-manuals.com , since I know little about it. This information helped me change the gearbox.
