Who? Who says this? Nearly everyone I know (who bought a house) basically saved up as much as they could and put nearly all of it down for a downpayment as soon as they were able to get a house that they found suitable. Maybe it depends where you live as well, where I am property is considered extremely low risk.
And re ps5, ya no s*** if you had $600 total do not spend $300 on a console. But any reasonable person reading your original post would take it to mean 'If you cannot afford two of something, don't even buy 1', i.e. if you can't afford $200 shoes don't buy $100 etc.
