they're not rappidy rap at all and their production is diverse even though it's made with traditional sensibilities. beats like "5 to 50" weren't a thing in the 90s, even if they're reminiscent of 90s sonics.

    They’re grimey not dusty.

I ducking hate the way that I’ve guy dresses

  • Because the people that call things "dusty" are more concerned with hype and whats trendy. Griselda has successfully paved a way for themselves and got a drake co-sign to the point where theyre accepted within the mainstream hip hop pantheon

  • But also..yeah. Just cuz theyre grimy, rap over sample based beats, and actually rap and dont prioritize melody, does NOT mean theyre 'dusty' lol.

having substantial, clever lyrics, and musical, rhythmic, engaging flows, is just called being a good rapper.

idiots who pad out their bars with lightning speed flows and meaningless content that just looks cool and rhymes a lot of s*** nonsensically is rappity rap. i hate that s***. but quality lyrics and dope flows are always awesome for me.

Check this, as far as the production goes i think it's crazy cus yeah they have samples heavy and boom bap pattern drums that's 90's based but then theres 808s added up top so s*** really slap

So to me it's like the perfect blend of the past and present, do you think that's what it is as far as the production goes? cus i know if you listen to some old wu tang and mobb deep it wasn't no trap type 808s on s*** back then

yes, that's exactly what it is. same with their flows. really modern, slick flows, but with the vernacular of grimey, old new york. it's awesome. their beats on WWCD were all made using synths and live instrumentation too. they're genuinely innovating the classic ny sound. "5 to 50" is a trap beat made with boom bap drums and blends of synths and samples. it's crazy. s*** almost sounds like if memphis rap and boom bap had a baby.

lol bro trust me I'm with you, but i swear niggas be calling anyone who straight up raps as "rappidy rap" that's why i used that terminology just cus essentially this type of music would get called "dusty" beforehand but i think Griselda really molded they own style that's widely respected

It's the major cosigns, it creates a "cool" and youthful air around them thus more openmindedness towards listening to them from people who would usually call similar acts "dust". But best believe me, without those cosigns they would be called dust

I always wondered what would happen if you took like 90s NY type lyrical raps and flows and put it over Kanye type MBDTF beats (meaning how it had different layers and break downs and s***) mixed with trap 808s

I think this is close to that minus the MBDTF style breakdowns

yeah people like that are culture vultures who don't belong in hip hop. hip hop honestly from day one had lyrical avenues and party avenues. go back to the "yes yes y'all days" and s*** like egyptian lover and afrika bambaataa, they weren't prioritizing bars. it was focused on beats and vibes back then too. same with guys like the beastie boys, same with 2 live crew, any given classic bounce artist, and three 6 mafia, etc. and then, on the lyrical side of things, you have dudes like rakim, g rap, hov, nas, paris, etc. the speedy resource room rap stuff came up in the 2000s when tryhard backpacker kids from the suburbs thought that rapping fast made them good. s*** was the most gimmicky, stupid stuff ever. and then you had all these generic conscious rappers too. but that s*** is way out of style now for the most part.

but people who are blatantly gonna trash anything with lyricism as an emphasis are just corny vultures who watch too much no jumper.

I see what you're saying. I think the "high fashion" appeal is working for them too, if that makes any sense. The Off White affiliation and rapping about luxury clothing etc makes them marketable to the "trendy" crowd.

I'm interested to see how they market Armani Ceaser

because the they’re actually able to create engaging content in an era where their style is not what’s popular

if their music suddenly became stale & boring then it would be considered “dust”

  • Mar 23, 2020

Because drake likes them so they have to like them too

  • Mar 23, 2020

Their s*** is dusty as hell but i fw it
