Since it’s December, and we all know that’s the best time to play 808s.
Can we take a moment to acknowledge what a radical shift this was? How this was, and still is, like nothing out.
I don’t even wanna touch on how influential this record would prove to be, because it’s been well documented. Instead, I just want to marvel at what an alien it is.
The whole album sounds icy, the reverb echoing out over the frozen wasteland of Kanye’s heart. Beautiful strings. Incredibly cinematic and lush, yet simple enough to be instantly catchy, or depressingly bleak. The melodies are winning and Kanye is at peak charisma. Great, relatable songwriting.
And then to end it with Pinocchio Story. Live. Raw. He’s vulnerable but the crowd wants him to dance. A complete contrast from the autotune. This isn’t the last time he would use a closer for contrast (See Yeezus).
808s And Heartbreak proved, if it wasn’t already apparent, this man is an artist in the truest sense of the word.
This is top 3 Ye.
i think graduation marked it but after 808s it was undeniable
This but I think 808’s was the shift. Graduation was at least some what familiar where as 808’s was so far left field that no one saw it coming
Id argue it was with MBDTF. Yea 808s is a classic and more influential than any album of his, but he still needed his Sgt Peppers, Pet Sounds, OK computer, Thriller, etc. that is widely recognized and acknowledged.
very sexual description of kanye west's fourth studio album
I’m an artist who interprets the world in a supremely sexy way.
