I know y'all are anticipating God's Country and all but...this is a Kanye West and Dr. Dre. Two of the greatest producers in hip hop. Just on paper, this is as big of a collaboration as Watch The Throne. And based on the video that Snoop Dogg put out, Dre's name is gonna be on the album cover, which tells me that he had more to do with the album than just mixing and mastering (if that were the case then Mike Dean's name would be on every Kanye album too). Plus, the way Snoop and a bunch of others on social media have talked about the music, I expect some new music in addition to the old JIK songs.

Kanye West and Dr. Dre! On a full-length album together! I still can't believe this is happening and I'm surprised a lot of y'all are already looking ahead to Kanye's next album

Also, I think Ye and Dre would want this album to debut no. 1 (especially because Dre has yet to release a no.1 album, surprising I know). So I think it's fair to assume it'll be dropping next Friday and not today so it racks up sales

I just don’t see how remixes of JIK will give us a different and as enjoyable album as the non mixed. Sry but the potential lost is just too high for me to be hyped for it. But nonetheless if it’s hard then I won’t deny it

I think it's gonna be more than remixes though. Dr. Dre is such a great producer that if it were just remixes and mastering he would've been done in like two weeks. Instead it's been like 8 months since they announced the project. I feel like there's more to this album than just reworking the original album. Especially considering Dr. Dre's name is gonna be on it, and he's only released like 3-4 studio albums in his career.

I also think that at this stage in their careers Dre is more of a music perfectionist than Ye so I don't think he'd allow the album to be anywhere near as bland as the original JIK

  • Jun 28, 2020

So agreed. I’d argue that Dre is the most exciting person Ye could collab with at this moment. Dre’s got a history of pulling out great rap performances and is regarded as the best mixer around. Those are literally the two biggest complaints about his recent work.

This will be a different version. A more rap/hip hop version of JIK. But it doesn't mean it is better. JIK was not made to hip hop fans. JIK is the more family album Kanye ever made. It is full of joy, positivity and purity. The most clean vibes in every Kanye album. It is my least favourite, because of my taste, but I can't say it is the worst one because it is not for me.

I love JiK even tho I didn't like the ye album before it, but I still know he can do the family/religious sound better as he as on Only One and Ultralight Beam so I get some of the criticisms. Maybe Dre can get more content out of Ye, as the lyrics were his most basic ever as much as I liked the focus, sound and rollout with the services + film. If it's a remix album maybe that means that rather than trying to get much more out of ye it will be a traditional remix album with slightly changed beats by Dre and a lot of guest verses. Which could be cool but wouldn't feel that much like a ye album

yeah when the guys on the budden podcast said that dre will be the perfectionist and ye will push him to actually release something rather than vault it like he keeps doing they could be right

I feel like a lot of the hype not being there as much as a few years ago, is either that people still love ye but don't wanna talk about him as publicly because it got exhausting after his maga summer or that they aren't that excited for more religious content from kanye especially the novelty of the first shift as worn off (because jik actually outsold ye first week). If he was following up TLOP rn with a Dre joint album I think it would be all that was being talked about by music fans. The way hip hop figures and media cover Kanye is almost always with a sigh these days rather than love with some exceptions, they'd be hyping this nonstop and saying it was a dream album etc. if this had happened 3-4 years ago

Exactly. Kanye can still drop songs like Only One and Ghost Town and City in the Sky (unreleased) and it would still make sense within the context of his Christian focus

    And Jesus Walks.

Tbh take out the curses and he could even get back in touch with some of his old message that he had for songs like All Falls Down or Through the Wire. You know he used to describe all falls down, jesus walks, spaceship, through the wire, hey mama, family business and pretty much all his concept songs from those very early days as 'spirit music' when he was still making demos, because of how he was talking about everyday life, trying to uplift people, giving some spiritual messages and because of the melodies (i presume cos most of the samples came from church-influenced traditions).

If he could tap into that take on what modern gospel music should be, then I'd be really excited. JiK is probably the most 'old Kanye' album since LR in sound anyway. Maybe even since CD, seeing as that had live choirs on Two Words, a gospel cover with I'll Fly Away, j ivy's verse on never let me down and jesus walks with that sample and message. Ye isn't changing he's actually becoming closer and closer to who he originally was imo, minus the Trump stuff. Putting out the Spaceship video makes it feel like he might be ready to embrace some of his older music again as im pretty sure he didn't even post a clean version

Idk I don't think a dude of Dr. Dre's magnitude would want to have his name attached to a remix of an album that wasn't even well-received. Expecting more than that. Maybe I'm delusional

Nah I feel you. It's just that Dre only has like 4 albums in his 35 year career that have his name on the album cover. He had like 40 songs for Detox and eventually he just scrapped the whole thing because he's such a perfectionist. I just find it hard to believe that he'd willingly drop 1 album under his name now that's just a reworking of somebody else's project.

just realised kanye must be making everybody stop cursing cos dre said in that video, it was the first album with his name on without a parental advisory sticker on.

He could do all those things but...Idk if he has the bars in him now that he did when he dropped College Dropout. A lot of what made AFD and Jesus Walks so spectacular were the bars. Idk if Ye has that technicality in him anymore because music clearly isn't his number one priority right now

yeah, music is third or fourth for him, celebrity s*** is probably ahead even tbh. as a music fan i selfishly want him to care about music the most, but his wide interests has made his peak music better so this is just the flipside of that when they inevitably take over. he could find ways to get other people to deliver the bars that the songs need tho-that's what he did on Ultralight Beam, just not with Chance this time

people clown Chance for a lot of his recent work, and i don't like it either, but tbf to him that was a classic song

Trust me - it’s not lost on me that this is a monumental collaboration in pop music history. I am very happy it is happening.

I just think the GENERAL public has a perception of Kanye pump faking projects and you won’t hear much about this one until it actually releases.

  • Jun 28, 2020

I want to be excited but this is just a matter of managing expectations for me. The amount of times we've been hyped up in preparation for some dope project and then... nothing

  • Jun 28, 2020

    IF IT EVER COMES OUT

  • Jun 28, 2020

id be a lot more excited if it was 5 years ago and dre remix of la monster wasn't significantly worse

  • Jun 28, 2020

The problem is that this joint project isn't really a "new" album. It's "just" a remix album. It might be great, but it's not really new content. So the collaboration aspect doesn't hit as hard. Really, it's more like Dre remixing a Kanye album, rather than Dre and Ye working together to make a new album.
