I was recently accepted into UVA and JMU (I accepted UVA’s offer) and I need help budgeting my finances.
My mother and I currently rent a home but in august I’ll be living on/near UVA campus. Which means I will be responsible for paying rent/dorm costs at two places and I’m trying to avoid this. UVA is in Charlottesville and the rent prices are high.
Has anyone dealt with a situation like this? Because I won’t be able to work 3+ jobs and attend UVA and pay rent at two homes. My mother already struggles paying her half of the rent and she only works 2 jobs (one of them are part time).
Any advice ??
Look into bursaries and scholarships. I'm not in the US but in Canada a lot of scholarships are made available for students with financial need.
Congrats dog
What are you going to study
Thank you I’m going for computer science!

You didn’t get anything from fafsa or school grants? You can also look into a work study job

Yeah just check your uni website, I'm sure they have an award/scholarship/bursary section.
If not you can call their registrar I'm sure they'll point you in the right direction

yea I’ll be receiving financial aid and I’ll look into work study
What's your plan for after? Are you going straight to work or are you doing graduate school? How sold are you on UVA vs doing an online school? Have you thought about doing community college around you first? A lot of them have partnerships with bigger schools to transfer seamlessly.
UVA campus is beautiful. stopped there once over night on a ride down to south carolina. the housing and everything is like nestled into the existing ecosystem it’s so fire haha. congrats man

Thanks. I haven’t seen it at night but I hear it’s amazing. I did see the ecosystem when I visited and everything is in the area. Restaurants, malls, etc

maybe find a smaller and cheaper place for your mum to live, that will probs help reduce the financial burden on you and potentially her too
