I know probably most if not all of the post 2000 releases are digitally recorded albums, hell, this trend dates ever since 1982 with Donald F**en's "The Nightfly".

But Doc makes me wonder. He's old school. I think I read an article where he said that whenever he needs guitar/bass sound in a song, he doesn't use a DAW, but he plays it and records it on the spot... Also something about a particular mic he records Abel...

Maybe it's wishful thinking, but if HOB, Thursday and EOS were a***ogue that would be rad as f***.

All I ever wish is a lossless copy with full dynamics of the 2011 mixtapes. A needledrop of a Classic Records/Analogue Productions/DCC vinyl reissue* of the original 2011 mixtapes, samples cleared and all, no Trilogy polished s***, but a flat transfer straight from the master tapes.

*for those who don't know the three companies I mentioned are some of the best in the game at reissuing vinyl pressings of albums using master tapes.

chances are some of the preamps used with the mics and maybe some compression or things like summing were done on a***og outboard gear but i reckon 90% if not more was mixed digitally

I’m pretty sure it’s digital but iirc there’s an interview where Illangelo details what they used to record the mixtapes.

    I’ll look it up.

Edit: it was mainly about The Hills but he briefly speaks on recording Trilogy with Abel at Dreams Studios in Toronto soundonsound.com/techniques/inside-track-weeknd

EOS was produced entirely by Illangelo, except 1-2 tracks, so chances are that was probably done through and through on DAWs
