Does a song need a melodic element and progression to be good?
Plenty of experimental, minimal rap songs from 90s and modern, electronic music, club music etc are driven by drum programming and bass and not much else. That is just the nature of that song.
I think the fact it’s so popular with basically 0 tangible, memorable melodic elements is a testament to her as a vocalist.
I can’t think of another recent ‘tiktok era’ song that is similarly minimal in its musicality yet so popular
Yeah I’m not implying it needs something like that, that was kind of what I was getting at with the end, that the song translates despite being so weird in that regard. I was figuring that this could kind of have to do with the tiktok medium because I’ve heard the song a lot but most times I don’t even hear the beat or at least the melodic elements unless I sit down and listen
Even though I see your point on this not being a brand new concept, something about this one in particular makes less sense to my ears than most beats I’ve heard
Honestly I kinda wish she would be more viscous with her delivery, could really make some of these bars come alive, but I respect her “demolishing you while completely unbothered” thing too

If she kept her unbothered delivery on some songs and used her euphoric delivery on others she would be unstoppable
Modern day speakerboxx/the love below tbh
We all expect better from you Mitch
Yall hyping up this coverart but were hating on Coi Leary's when they're basically the same thing?
What kinda 808s does Riot be using on tracks like Diana gangsta boo and bikini?? They’re so provocative
