this kind of hit me in the gut because i was hoping to work with him one day. he ran a studio called electrical audio in chicago and constantly worked with up and coming bands and musicians

I’m getting into recording, and yeah he would’ve been so cool to meet. I plunged so many recording session vids to learn his philosophy which ultimately is doing a lot with less, and preserving the purest qualities of a band
Steve’s letter to Nirvana about recording In Utero, explaining his philosophy on production and recording
Giant inspiration
love a lot of his work but dude seemed questionable as a human i gotta be honest
Why?
Why?
Strange place to bring it up but he was as idiosyncratic and controversial as they make em
His philosophy on music, production and mixing has really been a big inspiration on me.
Trying not to second guess myself after the fact and moment has passed is really something I am practicing in my electronic music and my music overall.
Just the fact that he had a philosophy on production is so inspiring.
On a complete 1:1 level, I would never had mix and produced this song like I did if I had never heard Albini’s mix/production

RIP. Hope he’s somewhere with a bottomless cup of kopi luwak playing poker and petting cats for all eternity.

He did eventually own up to a lot of the edgelord s*** from his past, thankfully, but of course no one’s under any obligation to forgive him if they don’t see fit to.

Yeah one of the first things i thought about was tweaze and how he was so excited about slint when they started out
One of the best rock albums of the 10s, mixed by the man himself

Thanks for sharing, super fire. I’m extremely cynical about modern rock music and this was by far one of the best recent things I’ve heard in a long time
Looks like they’re coming to my city in a month so def hitting that up
🤟🤟🤟

The highest of praise sheesh
But yeah they're that good 😤
Big Black was one of my first edgy ass punk bands I listened to when I was a teenager. As I got older, I'm glad he addressed alot of that s*** he was on back in the day and called it exactly what it was, "edgelord s***".
He really was your prototypical snobby music nerd. But he knew his s***, and as time went on we saw that he was right on the money with alot of his criticisms of music festivals, the industry, and where streaming was going.
