So from what I read, eventually, this site will need to make money. Completely understandable since this is a popular service offered for free, but costs money to maintain.

In addition to ads, I have some suggestions that may help start a cash flow for this website.

Obviously we want the website to stay completely free to sign up for, and we want to keep the base model as is

However, I propose certain additions that don’t affect the overall user experience, but are noticeable enough to get people to want to pay for them.

Now I know people hate paying for things, so this may be controversial. If these suggestions are completely off base, then go ahead and lock/delete thread. I’m not trying to step on anyone’s toes, or cause any type of site outrage.

These are just random suggestions from a random user on this forum.

PRICES MENTIONED BELOW ARE ALL HYPOTHETICAL, AND CAN CHANGE DEPENDING ON USER DEMAND

1. Emojis

These were a hot commodity on KTT. EVERYONE wanted an emoji. The charge for an emoji in a user name came be $10. A change in emoji will cost $10 as well. To remove an emoji would be free.

The $10 price tag keeps the cost high enough to make some users not spend the money, but users that really want it will buy it, and since they have one, they will likely want to change it. This keeps the $10 charge for emojis flowing as people always change their preferences.

2. Colored user names

The cost for this could be $5. Users pay a fee to have their name changed to the color of their choice. Additional changes cost $5. To remove the color, it will be free

3. VIP, Donor badges

Users who donate a certain amount get certain badges next to their username (price levels TBD), in addition to the badges, the users get access to emoji changes and colored user names, free of cost, if they reach a certain donation level. These are things multiple forums currently do (regarding Donor badges), so this suggestion is probably the most realistic. Access to donor forums, etc (this could be a good replacement for private sections)

Again, these are random suggestions from a random person on the Internet. If you are absolutely against paying for anything then that’s completely understandable. These are just suggestions to help make a site we all enjoy money so we can continue to enjoy it in the future.

No one is going to pay money for any of these features. And those who do will get roasted so bad for being such a lame

Yeah i feel you. Personally, I would pay for one, but I’m fully aware that there will be people who make fun, but I don’t mind, if I have a few extra dollars to blow, I’m gonna blow it on food or at the vending machine at work anyway, might as well blow it somewhere else

Also 1 paid sticky thread a week for an up an coming artist in the Music section but just 1 and only 1. With Paid promo listed. So everyone knows it’s a paid promo. No Mods only admins can remove the thread.

Or you could design an extra space where trending is at specific for this.
