I imagine I would instinctually go to protect the baby first. I think that’s what most good parents would do too. And what the mother/father would prefer if their family was in danger and their partner had to make a quick reaction to protect one or the other.

With that being said, this is definitely the type of situation where a broken parent would potentially grow to resent their child. Like when mothers die in childbirth and the father lowkey hates the child. But I suppose Vice versa a person could grow to blame/hate their significant other for the child’s death too
