Idk if dis thread was made before but its something I think a lot about when I listen to the album.

I just wanna clear somethinng first that I don't think this album is emotional in the sense of an RNB album, or emotional in the sense of Eminem, or emotional similar to Lil Peep or others in emo rap.

This album is one of the few albums where an artist has actually shown real anger and real frustration in the genre of Hip-Hop and Rap. Kanye put everything he had on the line when trying to push forward the brand Yeezy. He encountered racism, he encountered thousands of people telling him he can't do this, and he should stick to making music and that they miss the old kanye, he had to deal with his own mental health.

But most importantly he put his entire ego on the line when he went for this route in his career. Kanye's ego is basically why people hate him, it's the reason why people resent Kanye, but it's also what makes him special.

He's a special case where his ego is justified. He made countless classics, and before the release of Yeezus he had just recently released his critically acclaimed album MBDTF. He also became one of the few musicians who were able to transition into the 10s and stay relevant, he just had that music ability to keep people interested.

So with everything on the line Kanye has no choice but to succeed. If he failed and his brand went nowhere then respect for Kanye would've dropped, people who hated and resented Kanye for his ego would be justified they would be able to say "I told you so".

We all know how it ended with Kanye making a company worth billion dollar and changing the fashion industry forever showing that black people are able to be more than just slaves to the industry.

Now if Kanye failed it wouldn't be depressing due to the lyrics, but rather because it shows just how hard Kanye tried and couldn't succeed due to the racial stigma in the fashion industry. On the song New Slaves he EXPLICITLY and DIRECTLY talks about how the fashion industry holds black people in a box where they are used to influence the fashion industry but won't receive a cut.

Even though Kanye succeed I still think its emotional because it still showcases how much he had to go through, but its not depressing. This album really just leaves me with a bittersweet taste. I'm happy he succeed against all odds, but I'm still kind of angry that equality in the industry is not reached fully.

tldr: kanye wouldve been done if yeezy didnt succeed, thus making yeezus his most depressing album..

this my first long thread lemme kno

Nah because yeezus didn't fail, it was really successful. If yeezy failed he still would've made something like tlop next which was also very successful

i dont think tlop wouldve been a thing if he hadn't been as successful

  • Nov 3, 2020

I wonder if his focus wouldve been more on music if it didnt

  • kusa

i dont think tlop wouldve been a thing if he hadn't been as successful

I think he would have made something very close to it still. It's main theme is his mental instability, not just being very successful

And a handful of the songs hes had in the vaults a long time too

It would be different for sure still

Not reading 15 paragraphs, either way you’re wrong

Kanye is Yeezus/Yeezy. The brand means nothing for the album

Agreed. I’ve never even thought about the brand when it comes to yeezus.

And yeezus is my favorite album.

Yeezus isn’t about the brand or fashion tho.....

Yeezy is his name sake it’s outlasted the company and had shown its power on products before. Feel like you’re making this feel much more make or break than it actually was.

It was more of a question in 2013 on why he was piggybacking off of and whining about major sports brands than making his own independent company from the ground up. Dudes like Sway and Charlamagne were confident he’d succeed even without Adidas they just were flat out wrong on picking on his method
