A fun comparaison game :
Pusha T : Martin Scorsese. He said this himself he wants to be the Scorsese of the rap game. Poetic coke rap, timeless "rocknroll" sample even Joker comparaison, a movie produced by Scorsese.
Kanye : David Fincher. Obsessive. Some time misunderstood but the number one influence of an entire generation. Never afraid to take risks.
Future : Michael Bay. No matter all the critics, a real auteur. The one who shows the most talent for the hedonist colourful fun party lifestyle
Asap Rocky : Quentin Tarantino. Sometimes too much interested in style over substance, a genius noneless. And his public persona is as famous as his art.
J.Cole : Spike Lee . A nonstop fighter for the black condition, with a few misses sometimes but brought back a sort of common gsens and morality to this game.
Tyler the Creator: Wes Anderson. Behind a pastel and "naive" universe deep and adult questions.
Now the ones you are really waiting for :
Jay Z : I want to say... Steven Spielberg. The All Father of this. He was critized for not being as artistics as his peers but throught his entire prolific carreer he gave us magical moments, set the bar for the game and transformed it into its financial maturity.
Drake :...Chris Nolan or Kevin Feige. The number one right now even if people are getting a tired of his theme and formula. I could have said Kevin Feig and the marvel universe, but Drake /Nolan still has deep layers that he shows us from time to time. His reign is questionned right now and people are really waiting to see if the next project is the one that saves all. But..we trust Nolan. Drake not that much.
And finally...
Kendrick Lamar: drum rolls...Terrence Malick. With this new album, he proved us tha he is in his own category. He is not interested in the bling the crown the title the savior. He goes within to found timeless answers to his inadequacy. His album "reminded" me to the Tree of life. That constant search of self, the parents, and the sacrifice to break the generational curse. He uses his art to heal and not ownly to tell stories and vibe.
What do you think? Who did i miss?
I love Kendrick, you missed the mark with Terrance Malick, or maybe I just don't think he's all that honestly
These are actually great comparisons I thought I was gonna be offended by this thread. I would say though ye is tarrentino. They both take things from previous movies or music they like and make them their own. Both are heavily respected and seen as the best in their field but can often people with their work.
Kanye Fincher
That what I was thinking too. The Fincher comparison didn't make sense
Maybe outkast or tribe is Kubrick
Kanye is Kubrick because he's making such colossal and distinct game changers in a bunch of different lanes and remolded them to the point that nobody ever looked at that genre the same again
Just cus Pusha said that don't mean it's true. Push also said that thinking Scorsese only does gangster flicks
