  • Then the boy just aint got it in him cause he is literally just in the studio alll day and from the rap radar interview he was saying this was the first time in a while he really just got to sit down and dig deep basically well that was 6 months ago before quarantine!!

And Drake has a habit of getting into a stride after the album is done and dropping hits that didnt get finished in time to make the project aka the motto aka trophies.

So this man has not only already been hoarding great songs from taking his longest break in between albums BEFORE QUARANTINE. but he got a whole othet since months on top of that.
He crafted views within six months plus he's made his biggest hits as fast as ten minutes to an hour!!!

He is literally getting afforded the same amount of time to craft a masterpiece as Kendrick...

I see your point, but Drake has atleast two classics to his name already. He’s also more influential than Kendrick and that influence extends far beyond rap. Not to mentions, it’s not EVEN CLOSE when it comes to sales between the Boy and K Dot.

  • Jun 7, 2020

    Sounds like a personal problem

  • The fact Drake has taken probably the most time on this project, how he feels about the project and his mindset when creating it, leads me to believe that this will be his best , imo

  • Jun 7, 2020

He’s created those masterpieces before (at least 3 of them)

I’m not even worried about this album, everything we’ve heard from this era sounds incredible and he’s REALLY confident this album is something special

Kendrick hasn't gotten better since Section.80

But the world ain't ready to hear that yet. Drake and Cole have both improved since their first big releases.

Critics don't determine classics... YouTube nerds don't determine classics... The people as a whole do. Longevity performance, ticket sales, the streets, etc.

There are no instant classics. If it's that immediate, it's not going to have longevity.

  • Jun 7, 2020

Classics are more about perception than anything. Drake has always been divisive from the start. This is why no matter how many timeless projects and songs he has you'll always here the dumb ass "Does Drake have classics" debate because there's a large amount of people who simply just don't like him. Whether it be because of him personally, or because he sings.

This goes the same for critics. They're just journalists and they usually don't like Drake. DLDT has gotten pretty great reception with the fans and even casuals. Yet critics s***ted on this harder than any album he's ever dropped. And if you read some of the reviews it's more about him as a person than it actually is about the music.

reviewers have always s*** on drake because he doesn’t make critic bait music

you also have virgin youtuber nerds who s*** on drake like fantano who just because he worked at a connecticut radio station for 2 years with no music background, no degree in music or music journalism or anything to qualify him as a solid reviewer yet people run to his reviews like sheep and take what he says as gospel

that outcome has trickled down to the sheep into believing drake doesn’t have a “classic” album which is as incorrect as anything could ever be based on what the criteria for a “classic” is considered to be. Take Care, NWTS and even IYRTITL check all the boxes, damn near even Views just based off cultural impact, hits, sales and encapsuling an “era”. Every single party was running One Dance and Controlla that summer. and those are just studio projects, not even factoring in something like So Far Gone

the only reason why DLDT reviews are so s*** is because nicki and doja cat stans completely spammed and flooded every review platform they could with thousands of negative 1 star reviews and saying “stream say so in the review comment” because they believed drake dropped to purposely f*** up the say so remix which is just so ridiculous in it of itself. Otherwise the ratings on Drake’s most recent project would be higher no doubt

Kendrick is an amazing artist, but if you take that away he's has every thing going for him for people to say he has classics.

    He's the "woke guy"
He's the real hip hop guy in an era where rap has gon more commercial and mumble rap/soundcloud rap is a thing.
He's actually from poverty stricken place so people like his come up story (people never let Drake live it down even tho he was middle class)

That is true. I have yet to say otherwise.

My point is that he has higher "critical acclaim" than anyone not named Kanye West. Has he improved as an artist? Does he have more cultural impact than Drake, Hov, Ye? Why do we critique the other artists for the "commercialism"? It's taboo to say you don't enjoy a Kendrick album.

I know his "hits" are full of lyricism... I would argue the other two of the big 3 do most of the same just with a different style.

We all have opinions and preferences when it comes to the music. So, my question is, who determines a classic project? The masses or a singular critic?

How has Kendrick fell off? Genuine question. He chooses to take the time off for albums, and DAMN was his best commercial project

  • Jun 7, 2020

Views is becoming a classic, to the masses, which is really making his haters uncomfortable

We already knew how great it was but nostalgia is making it a consensus

  • Jun 7, 2020

I agree, I hope that the time off will result in high quality music. Even beyond the album.

As for "instant classic" there's people who's number one job it is to hate on any new Drake project. Almost no Drake project has had it's acclaim instantaneously.
