would love to see a Disco resurgence
I feel like people do play with the sound a bit but it's all in pop structures, there's no dance breaks
always found this interesting
Billy Corgan’s rock and rap theory is the idea that the decline of rock music’s mainstream cultural dominance was not an organic shift, but a deliberate, industry-manufactured push that began in the late 1990s.
Marginalized Rock Stars: Corgan claims that the industry deliberately "dialed down" the ability of rock musicians to have a voice and cultural influence.
I mean yeah
Labels literally shifted all gears to Rap for mainstream in especially the 2000s after Pac n Big died, and Rock was fighting for its life in the 1990s with popularity and the labels starting the steps to shift their business and pipeline setup focus to Rap that fully came to fruition in the early 2000s - this is legit fact too
It's why you'll hear the comparison of what is happening to Rap since 2023/2024 is like what Rap did to Rock - Rap strangled Rock in the 90s then completely phased it out in the 2000s - just like Rap is being strangled now and labels have already announced they're done signing a lot of rappers after their Covid round signing and have shifted focus to country and various dance genres artists (and of course pop will always be part of the convo no matter what)

Lil Uzi should absolutely do modern Little Richard cosplay and it would probably be the best thing he did after XO Tour Life lol
Indietronica or dream pop

what if they just cant make cool s*** in fl studio like every other genre that made it past 2007 lol
No free ideas but there are like 2-3 specific major artists especially who have given a blueprint to how to do rock in modern times without the artists im thinking of even making rock lol
They ironically would have had to do the same s*** rap did where it started being rap for mfs who didnt really like rap lol

Green day my chemical romance fall out boy were all names i saw frequently growing up
It didnt really stop until around 07-08 ironically people like Wayne made the rockstar s*** apart of their schtick
But theres plenty of ways they (post 2009 would be rock bands/rockstars) could have adapted rap to modern times lol
I also remember the neighborhood in the early 2010’s

Classic 70s power pop but modernized into a modern indietronica context would be
And it kind of exists already

A lot of vsts aren't rock centric so they still have full on bands and sessions and such which makes it way expensive and time consuming
It is starting to slowly change tho, just last week there was a metal focused vsts that actually got a lot of good reviews and it's getting good results of mixing it with session instrument play
And now this decade there are actual good guitar vsts too

Green Day is considered the last hurrah and they were already established from the 90s, and many rock heads did not like their 2000s sounds.
Fall out boy is pop "kids" rock and they weren't really on the radio or charts, although they did sell well and tour.
My Chemical is pop punk which is the only genre of rock that was still being mainstream - similar to trap of Rap or snap club RnB of the late 2000s before weekend n frank shifted it back into popularity and a new sound. Pop punk is considered "gentrified" Rock and even then there was only one to two to a degree popular at a time.
Everything else was literally dead, being ignored and went underground - and was not charting for the most part. You would also have one to two semi popular bands every 3 to 5 years that would have like one album that pops and everything else flops, like evanescence. And rock radio also fell back to the "classics" on repeat like how RnB radio did, which killed a lot of modern rock air time that was fighting with pop acts.
So that on top of labels that giving most of them the time of day besides a pop punk band once in while that they will use mainly for ad commercials is what buried them.
