Lupe is one of my favorite rappers, but I criticize him too for his song writing. From some of his rants it just doesn’t make sense with the music he chooses to make.. He obviously did not have the success he wanted because his lyrics are confusing and are just not palatable to the vast majority. You want to be an amazing lyricist with double and triple entendres for days? Fine. But don’t pretend as though that doesn’t turn off a lot of listeners. Speech 101. Know your audience and write to them.

I saw someone say Ab-Soul, but he doesn’t pretend to be something he isn’t. So stop. Lupe is mad at Kendrick for finding the right balance and it’s embarrassing.

Listened to murals the other day with the lyrics up on the screen and still didn't know what the song was about by the end

i like Lupe a lot and think he's super talented, but undoubtedly he sometimes just says random s*** that makes no sense but sounds good. Kendrick has this problem too sometimes imo (especially earlier into his career)

Yea he’s been rapping this way since T&Y. He says he does it to challenge himself as a writer. He feels he has more freedom to do so now.

I had no problem with T&Y being as complex as it was but I still prefer the more straightforward relatable lyrics like on F&L/The Cool.

He still will rap straightforward every now and then

i’d appreciate and respect a person sit and read rap genius TRYING to decipher complex lyrics then just listening and complaining he doesn’t make sense just because it’s not playboi carti saying the simplest 3 repetitive words every bar
