I actually relistened to big day like 3 weeks ago after not hearing it for years. It's not the greatest but honestly not as bad as it was made out to be. There's some joints on there
2018 you could be a rapper and your whole thing was just that you’re a bartard, that’s crazy
2014-2018
I didn’t even like coloring book so there’s no way I’m ever listening to The Big Day
The singing and drawn out verses for a 5 minute song just kills me.
It’s only me - lil baby
Rappers need to stop with this goat s***
It’s not clever anymore to put an actual goat on your album cover. Not to mention lil baby isn’t anyones goat
how did they cook up the Bad Husband beat?
in the worst possible way
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73Sfh_qGsDod*** rehab commercial ass music

song didn't need that last verse at all

This is a genuinely terrible album for me because its not just about the music is trash like Lil Xan
The music on this album is actually fine, Chance just really went like 1 for 22 its crazy how long this album is and how little of it is good. Like i truly am baffled by this album wtf was he cooking?
Remember when he said this was gonna be the best album of all time? What a career fumble

Its the sound + context of The Big Day that makes it bad
Like people in 10 years will listen and have no idea why its so hated but Chance was legit one of the biggest rappers in the game at this point and had one of the most anticipated albums in the game and just 100% fumbled it

It wasn't just that the music on the album was whatever Chance was also moving like a d***head at the time. So it gave people additional validation in s***ting on him and the album.

i'll back this up. i remember when it came out that he threatened MTV news into taking down a negative review of coloring book and i was like "damn, this guy is an a******, i hope his album flops". then his album flopped and i was like "lol".
So this album is never ending… Will take me time to go through this and write my review down lol

This album kicks off with Walk On Water, a heartbreaking song about writer's block and dealing with criticism. In this song, I related to Eminem, I was invested in this story. He basically told us, these songs are from the heart. So you want to give this album a chance. After all he did write Stan right?
Well... the problem is that the music is ASS. I'd describe this album as musically challenged. Many questionable musical decisions throughout this. The worst by far is any song sampling a classic rock song. These all suck and either sound like musical cancer or just make you want to listen to the original instead.
The second worst is Eminem's attempt at modern rapping. Stuff like Believe. Very annoying flows and straight yapping. When this style of music sounds best when it's simple.
The third worst is all the songs with sappy pop hooks. I like it a bit more because I like Recovery. Sometimes it's fun to hear a pop hook. But half of these are just corny and sound like movie soundtracks. This is while in late 2017 rap was at a commercial peak where a pop hook like this was already outdated.
In this album Eminem has a lot to say, going into politics and social opinions and into his relationship with his family. I think I could enjoy the message of these songs if the music wasn't so bad. It's just made in bad taste and sounds like a result of bad advice by out of touch label executives on how to make it sound radio friendly.
Also, this album is filled with terrible puns / one liners including "your booty is heavy duty like diarrhea", "she used to be my Gwen Stacy, despite her man" and "I’m swimmin’ in that Egyptian river, ’cause I’m in denial". I saw an interview with Eminem where he said he goes to the studio and writes every day. And I believe him!!! But that's just bad taste.
Eminem wrote Stan. And I believe he still has the writing and rapping chops in him. but as we can see good rapping and good intentions doesn't mean good album!! You have to have taste!!
Best: Walk On Water, River, Castle, Arose.
Worst: Believe, Remind Me, Heat, Offended, In My Head.
AWFUL/10
"she used to be my Gwen Stacy, despite her man"
And some of y'all call this man the greatest to ever do it

So at first I was like, hey this isn’t this bad it’s just normal Chance, maybe it’s overhated? Then it kept going on. And on. And on. And then I was like, oh.
So I think it mostly falls off and becomes annoying by the second half. Now the entire vibe of the album is happy and family friendly but at this point it just becomes obnoxious and lame music. The I love my wife meme is mostly about the last leg of the album that sounds exactly like this song. Also a looooot of corny puns.
Still, this doesn’t sound like the worst rap album to me and in retrospect this might have got overblown. This isn’t worse than an average Trippie Redd album (sorry for the stray). I think it’s Chance personality and public image at the time that made people want him to lose (just like Drake btw). So people overly hated on this bc of his attitude about this album.
But this shouldn’t have destroyed anyone’s career. Yes at its worst it sounds like Disney channel original music but at its best it sounds like a natural progression from Coloring Book and Surf.
So is it bad? Kinda. Is it the worst rap album, I don’t think so. It’s just kinda corny I guess?
But yeah it’s just really long and so happy it makes you sick.
Best: All Day Long, We Go High, Town on the Hill.
Worst: Let’s Go On the Run, Ballin Flossin, Found a Good One, Zanies and fools.
KINDA BAD/10
