it’s something i started working on a few days ago and i’m only like halfway done making it(and it’s way less fun to make than i thought but i like how it’s turning out lol) but basically it’s making the case of why 2012-2016 was the perfect time to be a hip-hop fan in high school like i was
basically i’m talking about every classic that dropped(and trust me, there’s a lot) while i was worrying about dumb s*** like who’s finna give me neck at prom
im focusing more on talking about the s*** i actually heard in hs(sorry money store/piñata), but figured i’d ask what were some of y’all’s favorite hip-hop albums from that timeframe so i don’t make the thread and say “how the f*** did i forget about trap lord”
i’m also gonna spend way too long talking about how wolf by tyler the creator hit different as a freshman

I guess ill be the one to ask what high school has to do with it lol. 12-16 was good for hip hop in general. Just cuz u were in hs doesnt make it any better

honestly it’s a lot less me arguing why that period was the best and more of me just breaking down what dropped each semester and the context about what the average listener knew of the artist beforehand
the more interesting thing to me isn’t just how much good quality got released, but how it was a formative period for so many artists. there’s the obvious ones like kendrick blowing up sort of out of nowhere with gkmc and running with it, cole living up to the hype of his mixtapes after sideline story, and drake turning into the MJ of the genre, but it goes so much deeper, and it sounds like a fun thing to research and write about. at least in theory lol
