i’m a black german so i feel like i can give you some insight.

i think our racism is far more systemic and casual. we deal with it too, but getting killed/attacked for the color of your skin is very very unlikely. if you’re staying in a bigger city, at least. i think a mix of classism and xenophobia is actually more accurate for us than racism. there are a lot of obstacles in terms of getting good education, finding housing, a job etc. but straight up racism is not as frequent imo. it’s more subliminal over here.

like someone has already mentioned, big part of the country is still strictly white and not used to “foreign” looking people. we’re not that diverse as the US, that’s why it’s a lot worse in smaller cities. but any major cities like berlin, hamburg, cologne etc. are pretty chill.

i’ve traveled through most of europe now and overall i’d say germany is one of the better places to live in and not nearly as bad as some people make it seem.

Germany not all that. As someone stationed here, the roads gonna piss you off in the city, the people rude asl, and parking absolute garbage if you didnt grow up in a busy city in the states. Other than that get some coochie here cause the white girls love niggas here.

I'm white but from what I've heard and learned we def have deep-rooted systemic issues with racism, the educational system is surprisingly hierarchical even though it's basically free, but most of the day-to-day racism is either not as bad or subliminal. Also at least not every racist here got guns lol

Other countries in Europe like Netherlands or Belgium are more diverse and have tackled racism better, but overall we're comparatively doing "ok" (still a long way to go tho)

Honestly prolly worse to look Middle Eastern / Muslim than Black here atm.

Although Netherlands and Belgium more diverse than most of Europe (except maybe the UK and France?), and we might try to tackle racism better than Germany (i honestly don't know if that's true), there are still a lot of racists. Extreme right wing political parties have a steady base here. In the Netherlands it's like around 2 out of the 17 million people living here that vote for the extreme right, who are anti-foreigner.

It's just that in the USA it's more violent and in your face, while in Western Europe the racism is more sneaky, like difficulties getting a job compared to white people etc. I dont know much bout the racism in Eastern Europe, but i guess it's more violent like in the USA, based on stories

Race issues in america are happening because we are seeking change and have a growing minority population to expose it all but in europe there’s not enough minorities to even warrant any type of societal change for them… so they can stick to the average racism and not think twice
