tbh I def agree with you @op
this s*** sounded so mid in headphones, but when I played it in the car and heard it on speakers it was actually hitting loool
and I usually don't even believe in that "outside" s*** in most cases but I was actually like
are the b****es in the room with us right now?
There’s a difference between mood and setting.
Tame Impala will go crazy in headphones or in a live social setting, because it’s just good music.
There’s no such thing as a song being bad/boring when listened to in isolation and then all of a sudden being amazing when played for a large group of people

I don't agree with this lol I felt this firsthand with UVST last year. I never thought that music was bad but I couldn't understand the hype behind it until I was out on the beaches in Italy with that s*** blasting lol
Sometimes the right setting and people can completely re-conceptualize music and give you a different appreciation for it.
Not saying that'll happen with KPOP but it's definitely possible
song is better than mafia/escape plan
song is better than mafia/escape plan
100%
when they doing all these diff genres with the 2 step/jersey club s***, is it even Kpop at that point lol
I fw this song tho but genuine question
at this point i consider Kpop an industry / umbrella not a genre
like how ‘trap’ (specifically something like Trance) isn’t really what you’d consider trap
For instance you can listen to Daft Punk in the comfort of your own home with headphones and have a great time, or you can hear their songs being played at a club and have a great time as well, because the songs themselves are great.
K-Pop is just a boring song, no setting nor amount of people is changing that

and if a song does all of the sudden become amazing around people while you didn’t like it, p sure that just means you’re a social music listener above all else (nothing wrong with that i guess) but those types of people probably shouldn’t try to engage in any sort of in-depth discussions about music in terms of quality, since it matters to you that much about how other people react to it
I'm firing off the hip at work
First half of HIS is incredible though. Top 20 Drake song
Kelly Price I'll give you but it's good toward the end of the night if you're on coke
oh def they're good songs, I feel like when you wanna start a party tho it gotta be energetic at first and then put slower s*** on at the end when everyone is faded so I agree on Kelly price for that purpose.
it also depends on the crowd too I know loads of white people just put on half edm some rap som pop lil reggaeton/dancehall/afrobeats in the mix just to Appeal to everyone attending but some parties you legit hear TikTok rap and pop songs only especially if they white girls

It grew on me during isolation I think the whip test really elevated it tho

All this armchair psychology for a simple phenomenon of:
If you're having a good time while listening to certain music, you'll more likely than not look back fondly on the music due to the memories you created with it
It's not that deep IMO

I don't go to parties/clubs/bars that are majority white unless it's a friend's birthday or something at this point lol
I don't even enter Manhattan at this point
Not coming at you btw but Travis has a greatest hits of party songs and this just ain't one of them. If you took Trav off and made it Bad Bunny x The Weeknd this coulda been great though

You said you never thought the music was bad though, just that you didn’t really connect with it like everyone else.
That’s different from saying “K-Pop is extremely boring and forgettable” to “K-Pop is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard” after you heard it on loud speakers in a social setting.
Also, literally any song sounds better over super loud speakers, so I think that’s kind of an inaccurate judgment anyway

valid point
I feel like the song isn't mixed well for headphones tbh but it sounds crazy with big speakers
