Now this may be a controversial opinion, but I believe that Sea Shanty is an underrated piece of music that is superior to it's more well known sibling Sea Shanty 2.
While there is no denying that Sea Shanty 2 is a certified classic, with it being the more catchy of the two (as if you could forget it) the more lowkey instrumental of Sea Shanty really is a hidden gem.
Particularly 23 seconds in when the flute is introduced for a beautiful melody, aswell as the use of clock chimes starting from 65 seconds in. And of course the accordion throughout is incredible, altogether the track acts as an amazing depiction of a maritime environment.
Conversely it could be argued that Sea Shanty 2 is a song that starts off strong and never falls off, and its iconic status is without a doubt deserved either as a meme or as a genuinely beloved track. But I truly believe that Sea Shanty deserves more attention than it gets, being a more lowkey but extremely asmospheric track that does its job perfectly.
In conclusion Sea Shanty is a hidden gem, and an example of the many masterful midi pieces created by Ian Taylor that really made the Runescape soundtrack special.
having never played the game and listening to them for the first time I agree. I love a good chune in 3/4 time
sea shanty 1 and 2 are alright, but autumn voyage...
Very good choice, I'm not against listening to a bit of gnome theme every now and then aswell
