Jay Z is really top 2 all time, Vol 1 is an excellent album, not saying it’s a classic though, but one can argue it over any of his his main top 5 (RD, Blueprint, AG, 4:44, Black Album)
Only tracks I see are weak are I Know What Girls Like, and Face Off, but I can easily see how someone could fw those tracks
It’s defiantly 5th or 6th in his discog. Jay Z Should be top 5 for anyone who called themselves a hip hop fan tbh
Facts, I been saying this. The highs are so high, a lot of my favorite Hov tracks are on this
Vol. 1 was actually my first Jay-Z album. I chose it simply because I loved the bronze and white cover. Something very elegant about it. I was floored by Imaginary Player, Lucky Me, Who Ya Wit, Where I'm From, etc. Til this day it's my favorite Jay-Z album and probably the one I have the most nostalgia with and sentimental feelings for.
It has some of his most iconic work on it for sure, and his best song Where I'm From. A lot of the beats have aged badly though.
"From where you can't put your vest away and say you'll wear it tomorrow, cause they day after they'll be sayin 'damn, I was just with him yesterday'"
Easily top 5 album tbh a lot of people don’t rank it as high but I think it’s top 5 material. Vol 1 and 2 are classics to me

I know what girls like & face off fit well in the jiggy era
Mid, only half of the tracks are good to me. RD s***s on it.
First time I heard this was few days after I heard RD and I really felt the gap between them.
It still has some wonderful cuts that I love tho.
